Is the end finally nigh for Lucas?

It's not him, it's what he represents.

He represents a continual lack of funds & foresight to replace players who are model professionals but aren't good enough to help us make that step up to the top echelons of football.

So no, I don't hate Lucas, I hate the fact that there's a rationality to him still being here.

So you don't hate Lucas personally, you just hate everything that Lucas represents in its entirety.

Which is arguably worse, if you think about it. It's an all-encompassing hate that includes, but also transcends, Lucas as a person.

Even I wouldn't go that far.

(Ok, I would)

It must have been custom made. Surely nobody else would buy one

It suggests that no company on this earth is willing to pay him money to promote their products. None. So he has instead decided to conceal any branded products with his own image. Or perhaps they're indeed paying him to conceal their products. A bit like a protection racket.

If they missed a payment, Lucas could walk down the street brandishing an iphone and wipe billions off their market valuation.

He wears Nike boots. I don't understand why they haven't made more of this association, given he's now Liverpool's longest-serving player and even fills in as Captain now and then.

Maybe there's been a 60" Nike ad featuring Lucas that only gets shown in cinemas. Or Brazil, maybe. Or perhaps only in his house, on his big projector.

"My name is Lucas Leiva. Jogedor de futebol. Just do it"

Boots is somewhat understandable, they would be displayed very close to motionless and allow the viewers to get an exceptionally long look at them.

But there's been more than one window in which he has been made available, only for another player to be sold, get injured or banned or whatever - Masher, Aquilani, Henderson, Sakho - or the manager is sacked and he has a new opportunity- list of people who have suffered under The Lucas Accord is almost endless.

As endless as the night in which the owner of his soul resides

I've often thought there's some scope for a thread titled "The Lucas Critique" in which people can argue till they're blue in the face that just because he's been shit before, it doesn't mean he'll be shit again.

Except there's about maybe 4 people on here who'd get it

Actually there's a 5 printed on each boot. Unfortunately it's not for each of the champions league trophies...

In that case he should have been given the Sakho treatment.

Lucas didn't do anything to be frozen out though. Usually a player is frozen out for two reason;
1. They are a bad egg and not allowed in the match day squad.
2. They have refused a move when we've implied we want to sell them.

Lucas isn't a trouble maker nor has he turned down moves just to stick around to pick up wages. He isn't even on huge wages anyway. He doesn't sulk to the press when he's a sub. He'll play anywhere when asked. He's good to help new recruits settle.

That is why he has lasted so long at the club. I don't mind Lucas at all btw. He was always handy to have around in the squad and no club aggressively persued him.

Your hatred of Lucas is one of the wonders of the universe. It may well have caused the big bang and it will certainly still permeate everything when all that remains is an infinite neutron field.

Unwavering, unchallengeable, incessant. It's a magnificent example of human emotion.
