Is the end finally nigh for Lucas?

Kenny, Rafa, Roy, Brendan and Klopp
Obviously Klopp isn't going to give him a new contract.

Isn't he? Obviously I hope not, and there hasn't been any indication otherwise, but he's been dodging bullets and hanging on for a decade now

I think if Lucas is sold on the idea of being fourth or fifth choice next season..

Way to miss the point. We had other priorities and couldn't cover them all. It's that and that alone which has kept him here this long.
We had Spearing, Adam, Henderson and Gerrard at one point, sell him and buy a new midfielder or whatever you need.

But there's been more than one window in which he has been made available, only for another player to be sold, get injured or banned or whatever - Masher, Aquilani, Henderson, Sakho - or the manager is sacked and he has a new opportunity- list of people who have suffered under The Lucas Accord is almost endless.

As endless as the night in which the owner of his soul resides

We managed to sell Spearing and Adam, whereas there were times when Lucas was linked with other clubs but no deal went through. I suspect your guess and mine for the reason why not would be radically different.

In that case he should have been given the Sakho treatment.

Oh I'm sorry I was thinking in numbers.
1. Matip
2. Sule, van Dijk, Tah
3. Lovren
4. Gomez
5. Lucas

Sorry I was confused by the word sold.

You mean if he's happy with that place in the pecking order? And also I suppose if that place in the pecking order is enough for Klopp to even offer the extension?

He will pretty much be forced to leave. This is his last season.

I think its been repeatedly the position that his contract is not in itself enough to get a replacement. He's almost always been 12-18 months in contract and the cost of replacing him is always more than we pay him by a considerable distance. in addition year on year, he's not the worst in the squad and there's always greater prioties.

Even now, I bet the most vociferous Lucas haters would swap someone else out in the squad rather than him, ever thus.

I'll never get the hate he receives.

He's been good to great when playing at CB this season when asked to step in either in cup games or as a last minute fill in when Lovren/Matip have been injured.

He can't win with most people

With the vast majority of us who have never rated him it has never been about "hate".....more exasperation; and not aimed at Lucas but at those who continue to pick him. He seems like a great guy, he has never given less than 100% and he loves the club/city but LFC is also about success. I always wanted him sold because IMO we could never reach the summit with him as a regular. In recent seasons I'm a bit more relaxed about the situation because he's a fringe player now but I will still be pleased the day we sell him...............but I'd also like to wish him well and thank him for his efforts.

It's not him, it's what he represents.

He represents a continual lack of funds & foresight to replace players who are model professionals but aren't good enough to help us make that step up to the top echelons of football.

So no, I don't hate Lucas, I hate the fact that there's a rationality to him still being here.
