Worse was when Roy Evans became obssessed with Scando agents. He was like a retired man who'd discovered the Pound shop, coming home every afternoon with crap screwdriver sets, garden lights and biscuit multipacks.

Was Anelka that great when we had him? Or was it just Diouf hatred that re-wrote it?

He wasn't hugely prolific if I recall, but there were a more than a couple of games where he looked superb - Fulham away being an obvious one I remember (because I was there).

Clearly the accepted wisdom that he wasn't signed permanently because we had Diouf coming in has helped exaggerate how good he was for us, but then compared to that useless fucking cunt he was a cross between Fowler and Rush.

Just looked it up, he got 4 in 20. Doesn't really seem like the miss of the century not signing him. I'm all for the Diouf/cunt bandwagon though obvs.

He seems unwilling to go for his second choice, which I love. Look at VVD. Didn't panic and go out and waste transfer and wages of someone else. Bided his time because he knew the player wanted to come to us.

He looked much, much better when you were at the games and saw the whole of his play. I'm not sure why - because he'd looked great on the telly during his Gooner days - but on TV he didn't look that good for us.

There was report on us being interested in Pepe on a free. I would be totally for that move. Karius can learn a lot from him, and he will be a steady hand who we can bank on when needed. We wouldn't go too wrong with this decision.

That would leave our budget in tact for more pressing needs.

Hopefully we stick to what has worked for us in the last two season quality over quantity. Focus efforts on bringing two signings (on top of Keita and hopefully Pepe) who have a high chance of working well for us.

This means we won't be changing too much. Our focussed efforts with good financial backing will allow us to continue in this path.

We are not City or Chelsea to address our squad depth issue in one season. No outgoing (except may be Ming, Moreno and one of Klavan or Lovren) and four top quality additions including Keita will absolutely do for us.

If we got Pepe back how would he not be challenging for the position?

He was ace. Wiling, unselfish, quality. Absolute shambles that we fucked him off.
That was a big mistake ... i really liked him when he played and his overall awareness was excellent plus he really wanted to stay at Liverpool. GH was a cock not to sign him up.

You take that back young man. He was fucking boss that year before Houllier started touching him in the bogs.

I know it was only one season, and the rest of the seasons probably take the gloss off, but it was a very good season. He was a monster, and actually scored quite a few.

I agree, Heskey was not a bad player... I've seen us with far worse.

I wonder what happened to him though...

His confidence on 1 on 1 situations just evaporated.
