Iago Aspas - deal confirmed

Iago Aspas: Created 69 chances in La Liga this season, making up 21.5% of Celta Vigo's total chances created

Our top 6 were:
Gerrard: 92
Suarez: 89
Downing: 66
Johnson: 46
Sterling: 37
Henderson: 33
(Coutinho has 20. Based on avg of 13 appearances, it'll be about 58 over the season - of cos, that's just a gauge)

Scary thing is that Aspas played almost 600 more minutes in the league than Downing, but his creation numbers are probably deflated by his club, and Downing inflated by his.

First part of his medical was yesterday with Iqbal, second part to be completed and signing formalised over the next day, £7.7m.

Yeah, terrible that we're making our second signing in the second week of June, Spurs and co must be laughing their tits off.
No need to be a dick Mark.
Ive just never heard of a medical taking 3 days before.
He was with Iqbal yesterday first thing.

Slightly unsure about this signing, if he is a swap for downing then he can't go bad, but if not then makes you wonder about the use of our precious resources.

3 days medicals sound just the ticket, surely we would've caught Kewell, Aquilani, Aurelio and big Mandy on the second or third days. Johnny Vegas could probably keep his shit together long enough to pass our 1 day medical.

I'm not, I just don't get the constant snipes by people at the way we're doing things. I heard people moaning the other week about who's signing the players because there's allegedly a bit of conferring going on, I mean we've just signed two brilliant players in January for peanuts so why would anyone really give a fuck? But back to this, it's not uncommon for lengthy medicals to see how a players reacts to various exercises etc. I'd rather it take three days and we make sure, than us sign him and him be another Aquilani etc.

Mark it's because they're idiots and you should never miss an opportunity to remind them

Liverpool meanwhile, remain confident of completing the £7million signing of Aspas, despite a hitch - thought to be over payments apparently due to the player’s agent from the Spanish end.
Celta Vigo star Aspas returned home on Wednesday without signing, but his representative - his brother Jonathan - insisted the move to Anfield would still go ahead: "There are no problems, just a few bureaucratic issues that will be resolved.”
Liverpool too, are calm, with a club spokesman insisting there are no concerns about the deal.

Liverpool remain confident that their £7.7million move for Iago Aspas will be completed, despite the Celta Vigo striker returning to Spain last night.

Aspas' camp cited 'bureaucratic issues' for the delay, but with the fee and medical all agreed, Liverpool believe the deal will be done.

The hold-up is thought to be over payments apparently due to the player's agent from the Spanish end of the deal. Aspas is represented by his brother Jonathan, who has insisted the move will go ahead.

"There are no problems," he said. "Just a few bureaucratic issues that will be resolved.

The Reds are also remaining calm over the move, with a club spokesman insisting there are no concerns over the deal.

LATEST: An interview with Aspas in the ECHO:

- My wife had an incident in the cab on her way to Melwood. The driver talked to her in a very high pitched voice and was not quite easy to understand for someone that don't understand the English language. I myself, Aspas, then met a few English persons outside Melwood who didn't even ask for my signature and to be honest, I don't think the press have been nice with me either. I looked awful in that picture with the doc. And my purse was almost not visible.

- I would like to say thanks to all the fans of Liverpool for hoping I would sign, though they have never seen me play, but I feel that for my family and myself that I should move on. I hope Real wants to buy me.

- It is also raining. See, now I am wet.

He has joined! Welcome Aspas! 🙂
