Hyypia, currently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, spent a decade with Liverpool winning almost every honour in the game, including the Champions League in 2005.
And, in conversation with former team-mate Jamie Carragher, Hyypia revealed a return to the Merseyside club is something he would welcome.
He told the Sky Sports pundit: "Many people have asked me - 'Where would I want to manage?'

"There are two special places for me; I was at Liverpool for 10 years so that would be great.
"That doesn't mean it's a target - but it would be something special.
"And I come from Finland - and the Finnish national coach is the biggest job there. It's also not a target but it would be great."

I genuinely can't think of any other former player who I'd prefer to see manage us.

Yeah, Hyppia certainly has the right credentials, and an unflappable air that befits a manager. He's also a class act.

Probably not next summer but Id say in summer 2015, if Rodgers still hasnt brought us to CL, he'll be top of the list for potential successors.

Hyppia the man is top top notch. A legend for us even.

How does Hyppia the manager fare and what does he do right?

Can anyone describe his ideology, preferred system etc.?

Cheers.

Sami is a top bloke, but I've no idea if he's a decent manager or not, and what style of football his teams play. I'd say pass, but thanks for the thoughts Sami.

It's early days yet, which is why I referred to the timing needing to be right, but he's made a heck of a good start at Leverkusen.

Any former player needs to prove himself first.
Hyypia has done that or is in the process of doing that so I'd absolutely support his appointment.

Those quotes are old, unless hes repeated himself recently, its obvious anyway managing us would be his dream job, il'd love to see it one day but not for a while yet.

The quotes are new (though content wise, repeated). It's from an interview with Carragher.

Ross, did you just say something nice? !!!

Maybe, or else I think poorly of everyone else and by default Sami is the man.

I have a strong preference for quiet professionals, and not much time for people who spend half their time blowing their own trumpet. (Or those people that get taken in by that bullshit)

Fair enough, he has said similar before, think it was before the other CL game against the mancs.

He's a great man, until he manages us, when inevitably he'll be pilloried as a bumbling fuckwit, so he's well out of it. But it's nice that he says what he says.

Yes, I would be with you on that. Unfortunately it seems the blowing is a part of the game. What quiet professionals have gone a long way? Del Bosque comes to mind, but he was not always so, I think.

I do detest the Special one particularly. Too much to say; let your results talk.

Did you see Mourinho yesterday, miming that his players were asleep? All the time most managers cover their mouths and do everything to hide what they think about their team. When his team under-performs, however, the vain little twat is out there finding the right camera to do the Marcel Marceau routine.

He's a child in comparison to the class and grace of managers like Ancellotti, and Del Bosque. He drags the game into the gutter for his own ends. Detest.

Well that certainly goes a long way towards explaining you affection for Lucas Levia

Whatever crazy shit he does, whether is publicly slagging his players, running down the touchline telling us to shush, telling his players they've fell asleep, or pumping his fists when they score, he seems to be an excellent man manager behind closed doors. He might be chatting shit and acting batshit crazy in public, but he's doing something right somewhere.

Rudi Voller has been doing well as Director of Sport at Leverkusen since joining in 2005 too.

Think its a good club and league for Hyypia to serve his apprenticeship in, before stepping into bigger roles (i.e. from Head Coach to Manager).

you mean like with Casillas? Or Ronaldo? or was it Marcello. He's definitely got his fans in the dressing room, but his style is such that they are with him when he's winning. That same style causes greater problems when the results go in another direction. A better manager can keep it all together, when the purple patch appears.

Sami's lot are getting fucking battered by a shit scum team. 2-0 down in half an hour. Looks like he forgot to teach them his defending skills on this showing.
