Typical that we play them when the new manager has got them playing well. They were a bit unlucky against Chelsea but beat and drew with Man Utd, so are much improved.
I suppose if Mane is fully fit the side picks itself with Can being dropped and Lallana back in midfield. The first time in a long while we have been able to put out the strongest line up. Not confident though, these are exactly the kind of games we have been fucking up.

They are better defending and have brought some players in that can lift them. However, we can hope they don't start their game by parking the bus rather trying to have a go at us. We should be able to establish a good pressure and score a few goals if they do.

I'll be veeery surprised if it isnt:

Ming
Clyne Matip Lovren Milner
Lallana Hendo Gini
Mane Firmino Coutinho

Only question is if Klopp will pick Gini or Can, I guess.

Losing Snodgrass is a big blow for them, with seven goals and three assists this year; he's had a hand in half of their league total.

But they seem to be getting tougher to beat under Silva, remains to be seen if it is just a 'dead cat bounce', but that coupled with our profligacy in front of goal of late could make this a tight game.

We started to look somewhat recognisable again in the second half against Chelsea, hopefully it continues tomorrow.

I'd go mignolet clyne matip lovren gomez milner henderson mane lallana coutinho origi

It's a bit More difficult to select a team when there's so many players who look out if form, or simply need a rest. Matip's been shite, but Klavan and Lucas are useless too, so you can't drop him.

But the issue is the lack of quality in reserve. I would rest Milner, but is Moreno trustworthy? Could Gomez play there? Matip's been shite, but Klavan and Lucas are useless too, so you can't drop him. And if you dropped Firmino after his poor display against Chelsea, who takes his place? Sturridge seems incapable of running, and Origi is mediocre.

I'd certainly move Lallana a little further back into midfield, as he has struggled in a more advanced position, which is no surprise as that's where he's played most of his time at Liverpool, and often struggled.

------------------------Mignolet--------------------

Clyne------Lovren-------------Matip-----------Milner

----------Lallana------Henderson--------Wijnaldum-----

Mane------------------Firmino----------------Coutinho

Matip's form has been impacted by those around him, especially Lovren who seems to have made a series of silly errors over the last few games that have put the defence under undue pressure - he particularly seemed to struggle for concentration when Matip was out of the side. A first choice CB to partner Matip should be one of the priorities in the summer, in my opinion.

Yeah, that's a valid excuse. For now anyway. If it goes on too long you might have to start questioning Matip's culpability, though.

Because he has been far from perfect.

Absolutely, the squad as a whole has gone through a dip in form throughout January. The run of games added to the general dearth in quality outside of the top 13 or so players has made a real impact.

It's not a valid excuse for how easily he lets players beat him, it seems if you stand Matip up you have a very good chance of bettering him, he was almost standing motionless when Redmond and Costa took the ball past him in recent games. I like Matip as he's got fantastic anticipation and judgement which is 90% of his job as a defender, but his weakness when faced up does make me worry, and I hope it's something he and we work on.

His job will get easier as he gets better and Hendo gets better as he really settles into his new role in front of the back four. He's doing well there but will no doubt get better still

True, but you can combat that as a CB with intelligent positioning &anticipation (Carra did it & so did/does Terry in their later years), but imo you cannoit judge a CB on their positioning alone, because if one of the pair is poor the other continually ends up out of position to try to compensate.

I'm not saying that's definitely what is happening, but it could well be.

Man Utd made a load of chances against them, several with early balls straight down the middle that their 2 centrebacks (Dawson & Maguire) were too slow to cover. They were very resilient in the air but it looked pretty easy to get through them on the floor, which is one of our strengths.

I'm sure Klopp's stats team will be telling him that we have to commit runners from deep and Mane, Lallana and Wijnaldum are suited to that provided we can play the right ball.

If we fail to win this game the writing's on the wall, we have to go on a run now.

I think thats more down to match fitness in all honesty. He didnt seem to have an issue with that prior to his injury.

I think he's saying that when Matip is faced by a player in close proximity, he tends to defend badly, which isn't just about his positioning, it's technique.

I'm fully supportive and cognisant that the very best defences are made of complimentary skillsets and understanding of the two CBs, and that does make me feel a little sorry for whoever Lovren is partnering. As much as Lovren does have some genuine qualities as a defender, there's no denying that he will regularly go chasing after the ball and/or player like an overexcited puppy, leaving himself stranded somewhere if he misses it, and the other CB totally exposed.

This is one of them we go into with a fully fit squad, and still lose 2-0. I'd say Gomez at LB or whatever, but we've got like what? 3 games this month. Just play the best team and try and win

I'm not doing optimism after the last disastrous try-out, but with Mane, Coutinho, Henderson, Matip, Lallana and Firmino all available to play together, surely we must be handing out a battering?

Massive game this within the context of the start of the run-in, especially with Chelsea/Arsenal facing off and others around us stuttering.

Klopp will have us super fired up for this and with the dream-team reassembling I'm going for a resounding 0-4.

I'd be very happy with a win of any kind, but it would nice to see a confidence boosting demolition.

I think a scrappy win with a demolition in our following game is more in order but I suppose we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves

I'm just disappointed that you couldn't find a more creative title for the thread. I dunno, something like "into the tiger's den" or whatever.

What about "In the Bengal's bum hole"?

We have a chance to go back to the XI that was causing mayhem in Oct/Nov/Dec

--------------Mignolet-------------
Clyne--Lovren--Matip--Milner
---------------Hendo--------------
-----Lallana---------Gini---------
Mane------Firmino----Coutinho

Hull or High Water wins.

Both relevant & accurate considering if we lose we look in danger of losing even fourth place ambitions.
Oh ffs no need to take it seriously! Hull away .... to the point, no nonsense, accurate, not cryptic and easy to understand much better!
