Rumours have it we were given a kitty of ca. £12M plus player sales so:

Javier Mascherano - £25 to £30M
Lucas Leiva - £6M
Yossi - £6M
Emiliano Insua - £4M
Nabil El Zhar - £1M
Diego Cavalieri - £1M

There's also the possibility of Albert Riera / Ryan Babel and/or David N'Gog leaving too. If all that (less tax) goes back into the pot we may have between £30 (Masher stays) & £50M (Masher & Riera / Babel goes) to spend. Where's it going ?

LB -
LW -
RW -
DM -
ST -
GK -

Whether Masher stays or not, if Broughton is true to his word then we may end up clearing out the dead wood in our first team and actually end up with a stronger team / squad than we finished last season with. Considering all that has happened that would be a considerable achievement and strong grounds for optimism where 4th / 3rd place is concerned.

I would hope that the goalkeeper fetches more than 1m. We paid a lot more than that for him.
Yeah. Even El Pointless will get more than that.

Not sure he's got much time left on his contract and he has said he needs to return to South America for personal reasons - SA teams don't have much dosh do they ?

I don't see where you get your 30m or 50m from Oncy. The figures don't add up.

I reckon we'll only have player sales to spend, so...

Benny 6m
Masher 32m
Insua 6.5m
Fringe players 4m

That gives us 48.5m roughly to spend.

That equates to Banega (14m), Turan 13m, Figueroa (8m), Bellamy (8m) and Cole's extra wages.

32m for Masher?
Doubt it
Maybe so, but I'd be disappointed with any less. Barcelona just sold Toure (who couldn't get in their side) for 28m. If they want Masher that badly (to go straight into their side) they should pay up.

If Inter's his destination we should insist on Cambiasso in part-exchange.

As long as Cambiasso's wife speaks English and likes fish and chips.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get in the region of £25m for Masher. I know we should hold out for more but everyone knows we need the money, so..

Also, there will be some 'take' with the transfer fees received which will probably go towards some costs I'd imagine.

Maschers only got a year or so left on his contract, I think we will get around 21 million for him.

In total we will spend around 34 million mark. possibly 40 if Babel goes too.

LB - Figueroa (7mil)
LW - Jovanovic (free) and Joe.Cole (free)
RW - Turan (15mil)
DM - Khedira (10mil) and Scharner (free)
ST - Keisling (15mil)
GK - James or Dida (both free)

Masher has two years left.

If we generate 40m from player sales and spend none of it on new recruits we would still be looking for another 15m or so to prevent the debt from increasing again. By a striker for 10m and try and dig out a couple of free transfers ... Hope for the best from Torres and stevie

we won't be able to demand a massive fee for mascherano. Its well known we're skint and he's let the world know he wants to leave. those kind of factors hardly help in negotiations.

I just hope he goes soon if he is going so we can replace him. If he is off to Inter then Benitez's usual last minute thing won't be helpful

It is good to have precedents and Toure for 28 mill sets the bar. We'll get at least that.

We don't have to sell Mascher. He knows it and the club knows it.

If Inter wants him, they'll have to pay and they got more than enough money.
25-28 mill £ should be the price. Although I'd also take a player in exchange like Muntari or Cambiasso, plus money of course.

We may not HAVE to but if a player is unhappy you tend to sell them. I doubt he'll sign a new contract so his value will only go down after this year

Heres hoping...

We should hopefully get...

26m - Mash
7m - Babel
7m - lucas
4m - Insua
6m - Yossi

Giving us a grand total of 50 million, say around 40 million transfers 10 million sign fees.

But I expect we will have to make a profit on transfers again this summer.

Rafa doesn't have the same financial constraints so may probably have no problem sanctioning an early transfer ... and spending a little more knowing it's going to us shouldn't bother him either.

One good thing about Rafas flops is they have maintained their value, where as Houllier left a squad full of players we couldnt even shift on frees, as they were garbage and on high wages.

Per the current owners rules, you have to deduct the entire cost of the contract per each player from the transfer fund (as well as signing fees, etc)....

I think the transfers of both Lucas and Insua might be witheld for a while, due to the fact that the Europa League quals are right around the corner. The same goes for N'Gog and his loan.

We need every player availeble, as we have half the squad on holiday following the WC.

Probable EL qual team;

Cavalieri

Kelly Ayala Soto Insua

Degen Lucas Aqua Riera

N'Gog Jovanovic

Better hope we're not playing a half decent team.. God we need some new signings aswell..

What about Pacheco, Jovey etc. Robinson at 16 yrs old is probably as good as Insua 😉

Is Degen still here FFS ?

Isn't Pacheco and Mavinga away on some U-19 tournament?

But yeah, I'd play Pacheco a head of Degen any day of the week. If Roy tells him he'll get to play some games this pre season, then he might drop that tournament.

I'd be happy enough if that was the side for the entire competition (as far as they'd get). I don't want our better players playing an extra 15 odd games in a season where breaking back into the top 4 has to be our utmost priority.

Fuck the Europa league. We can win the FA Cup (just as prestigious) playing about a quarter of the games.

Agent - Mascherano keen on Inter

Javier Mascherano's agent Walter Tamer has spoken about the appeal of moving to Inter Milan.

"He's happy to be a target of top clubs in the transfer market. Last season it was euopan champions Barcelona who wanted him, this year it's Inter the current Champions League winners.
"For him to be linked to Inter has a magical taste. It's a dream. The strongest team in the world want him, a team where some of Mascherano's compatriots play, a side that is guided by a coach whom Mascherano has a personal bond."

But Rafael Benitez has played down the latest transfer rumours, insisting: "In England I was a manager. Here I am a coach. We know Mascherano well but that responsibility is down to the president and sporting director Marco Branca. I want to work with players we have already."

Fucking hell, he's changed his tune hasn't he? He never used to stop bleating about transfers and having control before.

Yup, it's sickening really.

I suppose the owners there were upfront and honest from the very start about how they run their football club. There's also the honeymoon period, too.
