Holding midfielder and a left back

We all know we got two holes in the squad. Klopp doesnt seem to think a left back is priority but seeing how Moreno has performed may (hopefully) have changed his mind.
As for a holding midfielder I've not been to optimistic about that either seeing as Klopp blocked Lucas transfer. But the performances of Hendo in that role and a few failed experiements might change his mind. We're 3 million in green so far this window so we've got more than enough money to spend (as Werner confirmed).

Who would you sign?

We've been linked with Paredes for 18 mill. That could be a great signing.
As for a left back. Ricardo Rodriguez has been valued at 22 mill and is still at Wolfsburg.
Not sure if he would come but so late in the window CL footy might not be that important if he wants a move away from the Bundesliga.

I don't actually think it's specifically a holding midfielder, more a midfielder who is prepared to impose himself on the game and on the opposition, come what may.

Do people actually think Klopp will pander to pressers and say our left back (or keeper) is shite?

Isn't that naive or bordering stupidity?

He doesn't need to, he dropped his left back for this game. So despite all the protestations to the media throughout the week that he didn't have a problem with Moreno and it was just one bad game, he then went and dropped him anyway. It's a bit like when he said Allen was a brilliant player, and then sold him.

Well that's what I thought. I mean pre-season talk about Milner asked to play there kinda suggests Klopp isn't happy with our left back and selling the back ups meant they really a good fit either.

The fact that Milner is playing there kinda also suggest no one is available as a transfer or the right fit for Liverpool

I'd be surprised if Klopp went into a season with only 1 LB at the club. Granted other 'could' play there out of position, but if he doesn't get one in then there really must be absolutely nothing out there decent that's reasonably available.
I don't think a DM is going to happen, majority of managers these days dont think they need one, and the only ones that do think they need one usually win the league.

Didn't Klopp go for Dahoud(sp) and Chilwell? So may be he is keeping cards close, so it doesnt push up prices on any potential targets. From what I have been reading Wenger has said he wants to buy and reports suggest players his after the fee's being quoted are way above market average.

Jürgen Klopp insisted he would be an “idiot” if Liverpool’s abject 2-0 defeat at Burnley would cause him to buy a left-back or midfielder, though the manager is considering strengthening further.

Klopp’s side were second-best in every department at Turf Moor, going down to first-half goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray. A lack of midfield bite and James Milner as an auxiliary left-back for the dropped Alberto Moreno particularly weakened Liverpool.

Yet asked if the display alone might move the manager to buy in these positions, Klopp said: “If one game should change my mind then I would be a real idiot. I know you [questioners] would all buy a left-back but a midfielder?”

Klopp was dismissive when it was put to him many 50-50 challenges were lost in midfield. “I love your job because we can have the ball and then we need to be the best fighters. Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player,” he said. “The answer is I don’t know – we will see.”

Liverpool had 80.6 per cent of the possession at Burnley but failed to translate the dominance of the ball into a goal.
Klopp refused to put that factor down to his team simply having an off-day and criticised his team for making bad decisions when in attack.
"Losing games are never off-days, but of course we have to take it," he said. "We have 36 games left that is a big number. It is information I did not want - but I knew it before. Losing the ball in the build-up makes no sense.
"We can react better but I saw a lot of good things. If you tell me last year we could have played at Burnley this, not perfect of course, I would be really surprised. They could not defend against us like they wanted. It was not a day off, it was an experience we don't want.
"It is not a defending problem it is an offensive problem. We should be ready in our development and these mistakes shouldn't happen anymore, but our training drills did not include us playing the ball at the wrong time to the opponent. We put ourselves under pressure."

He (Klopp) is spot on with his own analysis. Also this reaction that somehow after having 80.6% of the ball warrants a holding midfielder is a little strange from our people on the site. Losing a game after having so much possession is probably a bigger worry as usually that amount of possession should translate to at least 3 goals for us at the very minimum. F*ck - if that 80.6% is true then its the largest share of possession I have ever heard of by one team in a professional game of footy. Have any of you heard any higher ? - I mean you hear things like 70-30, or more commonly 60-40 but 80-20 ? we were truly SHIT !!!

I didn't see the game but it's pretty clear we missed that which I've liked best about Mane so far...his purpose and intent. He doesn't just do stuff that looks easy on the eye...he hurts teams and that's what we've missed since Suarez left and we evidently missed it again at the weekend having had all that possession and coming away with nothing to show for it.

If we had a Mascherano on the pitch on Saturday, there's no way they score that second goal.

It's becoming ludicrous how the last 3 Liverpool managers seem to all have a blindspot when it comes to signing a defensive midfielder. Or should I say not signing one. A top DM would have been the first signing I would have gone after in the summer.

Is it a case of the right kind of player not being available, or is Klopp genuinely not interested in a specialist DM? I suppose the next week will show us.

Klopp - like numerous managers nowadays TBF - prefers midfielders who can do whatever's necessary at any given time. In principle so would I, but in practice they're so difficult to find (and to afford when they do come along) that I too would prefer us to bring a DM in, certainly until we establish ourselves back at the very top and can then afford to compete for the very top MFs.

First signing? After a keeper and left back has been signed right?

Lucas is staying.. He will be our 4th choice Centre Back with Sakho going out on loan and cover for DM position

Gomez cover for left back

No more signings

The problems for our defesive shambols are our midfield. I am not saying that we need a defensive midfielder. I am saying that we need a midfield dynamics and balance that can controll the games at their will so that the defense does not come under unecessary pressure like it happened against Arsenal and Burnley. The positioning of our midfield duo is also very strange at times. The two midfiedlers and attacking FBs are supposed to have positions so that at a defensive trigger, they are optimially placed to to either press the opponents or close the gaps to avoid counter attack. And Henderson was the deepest midfielder is the worst thing I have even seen from Klopp. I would have started Stewart in place of Hendo actually.

With Hendo struggeling and Can having some injury issues it would make sense to get another midfielder in.
Roma crashed out of the CL. Maybe that will change their stance about selling Paredes.

Do you rate this guy or is it just paper talk? I know nothing about him but if he was any good wouldnt he be sought after and be valued more than 18m?
