He's a keeper...

If we're looking for a long-term solution, then why not just go for the best young German goalkeeper (who is not playing for Bayern or Barca yet)? Ron-Robert Zieler is considered by most to be the 3rd best goalkeeper in Germany behind Neuer and Ter Stegen, just get him! He even speaks fluent English.

The only thing with Germans, they are not too likely to move in the winter; I think players like to honor their contracts as much as possible and cause any sudden disruptions to their club. So maybe we can get a short-term option like Ochoa now and plan to replace Mignolet in the summer with someone like Zieler or another top goalkeeper talent who is available.

"I don't feel like I have to prove anything. The only thing I have to do is work hard in every game and do my best. All I can do is show on the pitch what I am capable of."

It might be a bit harsh to highlight this but how can Ming come out with that after the season he's had.

Ochoa went to Malaga after the WC and hasn't been able to dislodge Kameni (Cameroon keeper) from the No.1 spot there.

I thought this too when I saw that comment, "I have nothing to prove", and then he walks out on the pitch and has at least one calamity in him per game. It was like watching comedy keepers last night.

I suspect it's a combination of things. He's trying to keep his own spirits up, and he's probably a bit cheesed off that we've tried to shoehorn him into a style of play which doesn't suit him, despite having known his strengths and weaknesses before we bought him. I can't blame him too much really.

Continuing with the World cup theme...

Sergio Romero (Argentinian keeper, at Sampdoria but has spent time on loan at Monaco) has 6 months left on his contract. Apparently available for 2m or thereabouts.

He definitely fits the mould of a commanding keeper.

There are actually loads of very highly rated young German keepers. Zieler is one of them, but you hear as much about Bernd Leno at Leverkusen and Kevin Trapp at Frankfurt. There's also Timo Horn who we looked at and Loris Karius at Mainz. Don't really know who the best of the lot is though frankly.

Would be a big punt and also a huge pressure pit for a young goalie. We need a calm head to come in for 6-18 months with someone else ready to step in after that. With the defence as it is, we'd ruin an inexperienced keeper!

I'm not so sure, it really depends on the character of the keeper.

Put a young Neuer into any side and he'll own the box.

Yep. It really has to do more with character than age. Ter Stegen would have been perfect.

So Man Utd now have De Gea and Valdes. We have Mignolet and Jones. I hate football.
BUY SOME PROVEN FUCKING WINNERS.

Ideal scenario, De Gea leaves for Madrid in the summer to replace Casillas. Valdez steps in until United find another young keeper who isn't as good as De Gea.

On a side note, would De Gea sign for Madrid with his allegiance to Atletico? It would be very hard to turn down Real and become the Spanish #1 for the next decade.

Maybe De Gea is not staying

There's no way he'll go mid-season when they simply have to qualify for the bumper Champions League place.

They'll likely take a look at Valdes over the next 6 months and decide then whether to let De Gea make the move.

I'd love Madrid to sign one of De Gea or Lloris.

Maybe then we could make a move for Kaylor Navas.

I've been impressed by Adrian of West Ham this season. He was superb against Chelsea and is one I'd like to see us keeping tabs on. He looks like he could step up to our level.

Regardless of the league table, we're a bigger and better club which comes with its own pressure of playing for it.
