I am never pointing fingers at the club for losing out on targets when it comes to being outbid and I too agree that we should have a limit when it comes to any player. I have even backed the Alberto signing to some extent as I have never seen him play and have faith in Rodgers when it comes to spotting talent. I wasn't really accusing you, just in general, some of the hyperbole from posters who are the first to moan about players like Downing etc is laughable. "Yeah let's fork out £30m on a player I hadn't heard of until yesterday, because he's Brazilian and he's got shit hair".
This however, is a different story. If reports are to be true we have actually decided this one is not good enough which can only mean one thing, some of our European scouts are amazingly daft. - Again, with the greatest of respect, you would say that given that you are a fan and he's one of your own. I like the look of Eriksen and I've said that before, but there's always this underlying concern that he's a big fish in a small pond and if he actually moved, he might get found wanting. Of course he could end up being amazing.
Secondly with the quoted prize being in the region of £10M-£12M, in other words very very decent in an elsewhere inflated market where Chelsea and City etc. pays +£30M for relatively unknown Brazilians, we are actually looking at a rather risk free bet. He is despite what you say/think very highly rated after and even a few poor Seasons with us and we'd still be able to recoup most if not all. - Fair enough, but we've earmarked someone with what we have remaining to spend, or we've decided to keep hold of the money until the right player is available (cf with Sturridge), then I'm not going to blast a club who've been too guilty in the past of spending for spending sakes (cf Rafa).
He is even ok with not going to a ChL playing club, something it seems have been a stumbling block with other targets, he's quite level-headed and trustworthy, and he has been directly involved in 68 goals i his 92 Eredivisie games for Ajax from the age of 18 to 21. Even if you haven't seen him like a 100 times like I have you should at least consider the possibility that we really really should be all over this. - Eredivisie stats are notoriously difficult to credit, because for all the league's ability to conjure up starlets straight off the production line, it's also renowned for poor defending, poor goal keeping and a gulf between the bigger sides and the lesser ones. The stats don't bother me, though as I've said in the past, from what I've seen admittedly he does have a fair amount of promise. I'd presonally like to see how much of those goals he's been involved in were actually setpieces
