He who shall not be named

I agree he's soft and poofy and frankly I don't really like him after watching World Cup 2010.

But in fairness we spent almost the same amount on Alberto and Aspas and frankly he is better than those two.

He'll probably have the same contribution level as Meireles / Benayoun - not a league beater but he will bring a good handful of goals and victories and for we can do with that at this price and at this stage of the window. He's good value. If we aren't in for him I hope it's because we have earmarked someone better but at this stage my hopes aren't high.

If the only time you have catched him play is the WC 10 (or EC 12 for that matter) I can well and truly understand why you'd be slightly under whelmed with him.

So far he's been like the polar opposite to someone like Baros though, one that set the world alight and looked like a fat Ronaldo clone during the EC's and then went back to being mostly headless for us.

I am not Danish but from watching him many times for Ajax I am disappointed that we are not in for him. It was known for a while that he was not going to be any more than 12 mill and that is a bargain for the lad.

I find it a pity too because having featured for Ajax as a left attacker, he could play on the left wing for us; and he could definitely swap with or sub for Coutinho as a 10. But Rodgers is on record as saying he wants a winger who has pace and is more of a direct goal threat, so Eriksen doesn't fit that bill. Maybe the likes of Alberto, Suso and Teixeira are seen as not far off the first-team picture, so another playmaker isn't a priority as well.

We should go for their striker Sigthorsson, the guy from Iceland. A proper striker, scores his goals without any fuss. He's been clinical when I've seen him. Would be a good player to have on the bench as back up and as an impact player. Shouldn't be that expensive either.

Not the starting XI player everyone wants but that train seems to have gone.

I quite like him too and he'd certainly add some grit and steel to the squad.

However I would have concerns over his first touch/overall technique as he's no Sturridge or Suarez for that matter. Can seem clumsy at times when the ball is moved around at pace. But as you say a proper goal scorer that'll always possess a threat in the air.

I think it's as simple as this, to be honest. I think we want someone a bit more direct.

I don't understand, are you talking about the Spurs player Sigurdsson but put the word Thor is in name because he's clearly a nordic god, or is there actually an Icelandic striker called Sigthorsson?

There is

Aspas I can understand a bit (he's looking to lightweight), but Alberto?

Give him a chance for fucks sake

Spurs -- or more accurately, Levy -- has played a blinder this summer. It's a masterclass in spending the fortune from selling your star player. While we supposedly balk at the €12M and refuse to bulge at our evaluation of €10M, the reported payment in installments suggests it's less of an evaluation issue and more of a negotiation one.

The window isn't closed yet, but I can't help getting disappointed, and more than a little frustrated, by our own inactivity. Rather than a star football player, our marquee signing should be a star chairman or football man. A Daniel Levy or a David Dein. I don't know the real ins and outs of the club and what we are fed from the media is only a smidgen of what really goes on, but dang it, FSG are making it easy to point fingers at them.

We tried to get Dein on board repeatedly. He was one of the 'football advisers' fsg referred to when they first bought us.

He wouldn't take a full position in any capacity though.

I'm just reading back through some of the thread and some people are going to lenghts to have a dig at Eriksen. Why? Becasue KHL, rants and raves about him? Who gives a fuck. He's passionate about one of his countries best players. A player we should be all over at that price. I don't think the forum is forgiving to posters showing loyality to their nation's players. I think DB ruined it for everyone with his Roy Keane love fest. Thanks Pat.

We've had Ross attack Robbie Keane with years and the a lot of the English guys don't seem to like the English team but if KHL wants to get excited over a player he clearly rates and 'loves' then let him to fuck. Yeah of course Danish bias is in play but Eriksen is a very good player.

Tom Werner is described in Wikipedia as the part-time chairman of Liverpool. Well, it's starting to feel that way, part time.

You rock ... even if you're American.

He's average at best. Can we please draw a line under this thread?

I'm not writing Alberto off, I just think where we are financially as a club we don't have the luxury of spending the money we did on potential when for the same amount there's a player who is better.

It would certainly seem a strange old buy when we sent Suso out on loan and Eriksen could be picked up for around the same price. Obviously he could develop into very good player, so only time will tell. But, yeah, can we afford to be taking £7m punts on potential?

If eriksen is only. 5m more then you have to worry about the logic in going for a player like him and not eriksen. I thought the days of us getting stiffed in the transfer market were over.

When comparing Eriksen and Alberto, you can't really use the not very athletic claim either.

I'd describe Eriksen as a dynamic, energetic player with great stamina. Quick feet and upper body strengths in the Mata/Isco-mould. Not much to worry about in that department, he'll be just fine.

Btw I ran into one of our European based scouts the other day...

Maybe, he's just sharing what scouts have told him though. Its strange that so few teams have gone after him.
That said, for 9 mill its pretty risk free and he'll probably end up a very good signing for them.

I don't agree, especially if - as we seem to be - the club involved is strapped for cash.

Sign the fucker. He'll be worth it even if it's just a case of making a profit down the line with a transfer. Most likely will be a very good addition to our squad/team.
He's 21 and should keep getting better. People talking about not being impressed with him in the Euros need to understand that he could have been playing for the U20/21 at the time, yet he was still chosen to start for his country.
He's a talent and I don't understand why anyone would think otherwise. Spurs getting him will be way worse for me than the Siggurdson and Dempsey transfers.

According to Danish papers £2M in yearly wages being quoted. Where would that put him in our team salary-wise? @Rosco

One thing no one is mentioning is the player.

He's much much more likely to want to join spurs than us after Spurs signal of intent with purchases.

Neither of us are in the cl but looking at it with my rose tinted glasses off they're way more likely to be there next season.
