The king is 59 years old today.
Happy birthday and many more happy years to my all time favourite player!

Makes YOU feel old? I'd been a Red for 15 years by the time we signed him. ;D

Happy birthday to our best ever player, our first double-winning manager and one of the greatest club servants in our history.

Yea. The disappointment of losing Keven Keegan didn't last too long, did it.
Happy, innocent days.

Tell me about it. I was convinced we'd made a mistake, having never been that struck on Dalglish when I'd seen him playing for Celtic or Scotland. WTF do I know, eh? ;D

And we made a £60k profit on the deal.
A masterstroke by Sir Bob.

I really hope it's true that he turned to Ronnie Moran when the King had actually signed, and said: "Let's get out o' here before they realise what they've done." 8)

You old sod!

Happy Birthday Kenny! Didn't have the pleasure of being around and seeing him when he played, unfortunately.

I never saw The King play live in his absolute pomp, by the time I was going to Anfield he was well into decline, although I saw him score a trademark curler against Wimbledon at Anfield in a 1-2 defeat, and his cameo against QPR when he made his first appearance of the season after securing our last (LAST!) Title and was about 40

Gillespie with the winner, Rocket Ronnie with burning ears

The 2-1 v QPR in 1990 saw, Rushie score from an impossible angle and Digger score a pen after Steve Nicol was fouled by Parker just inside the box.

I only saw Dalglish live from 1983 but for me, the song says it all.

"He was the greatest of them all"

No one has yet changed my opinion of that.

Was it Derby that Gillespie scored? Maybe that game clinched the title then?

Curse my fading memory!

Dalglish come in the game v Derby and yes, Gillespie was the goal scorer. Your memory is not so faded. QPR game was where the title was clinched but I think Derby was last home game of the season.

I'll go check!

EDIT: Yep, Derby was last home game of the season and Dalglish came on. We then spanked Coventry away 6-1 the week after with Digger scoring a hat trick.

Against the worst defence anyone has ever seen on grass. Barnes was so mortified for them he didn't even bother to celebrate the hat-trick!

All I remember about Kenny's appearance is him screaming at at a slightly bemused Ronny R and pointing to where he should run to receive his passes

That and the fact he didn't move at a faster pace than 'stroll'
