those comments are pretty funny;

"Liverpool have recalled Peter Gulacsi from his loan spell at Hull to ease their goalkeeping crisis"

In fairness, Jones wasn't terrible. We won one game with him and lost the other. Sure it seemed harsh on Luzi but Houllier was the one seeing him in training every day I guess.
I was just going to say that, didn't he actually play quite well in one game at Anfield. Also, Jones deserved a lot of credit because he turned down full time contract at other clubs to play one game at Anfield (supported Liverpool as a kid).

He did indeed. It may have been harsh on Luzi (though given he was probably shit, it may have been fair!) but it wasn't Jones' fault

I don't think turning down the chance to play every week to be third choice somewhere is particularly admirable. I'm sure it makes financial sense to him but it's a weird waste of talent.

I thought we were talking about Paul Jones

Jolly family man Neville Southall has successfully sued his daughter for £55,000 worth of trophies. Southall gave the memorabilia to her when she was 10, but now wants them back. "I'm devastated," his daughter Sam said. "I idolised my dad. I don't know how I'll pay the costs [which amount to £5,000]."

He had a great idea on Soccer am a few weeks back saying prem teams should have a free game at the start of the season as a thanks to fans.

That could make for an interesting twist. For the times when an attacker is clean through, a defending player might decide to wait until the attacker is INSIDE the box before pulling them down because then they will avoid a red card. It's arguably better to concede a goal (from the penalty) and keep 11 men on the pitch than concede a free kick and be sent off instead, although it will depend on what the match situation is and how long is left to play.

We might even have the defending team surrounding the ref arguing it's a penalty against them, and the attacking team demanding a free kick and a red card instead.

Why not just let him through? Why make a tackle at all?

I think you are over thinking this...

I think it was half time, but maybe not.

Do you remember what he was even protesting about?

We might be thinking of a different time. I'm thinking of the one where he sat against the goalpost at Wembley. Wasn't that when we beat them in the cup final or something? And he just sat there like a grumpy big cunt at full time?

Yeah I think that one was just a regular sulk. The other one was a protest against something, which whatever it was clearly didn't work out. Unless it was for the re-introduction of pies to the menu in the Goodison canteen. That might have worked.

Gulacsi is highly thought of by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish.

Upon Dalglish’s return to the Anfield hot seat in January last year, 21-year-old Gulacsi was promoted to Reina’s understudy for 23 games, although the Spaniard’s form kept him on the bench.

The terms of the loan did not include a recall option but the two clubs have struck a deal of “goodwill”.

Former Tranmere Rovers manager Les Parry believes Gulacsi can handle the pressure of the 218th Merseyside derby having been highly impressed with him during his two spells at Prenton Park.

Gulacsi played the final five matches of the 2009/10 season with the Wirral club before returning for 14 games the following campaign.

Parry believes his performances played a major role in helping Rovers avoid the drop in 2010.

”He was one of the reasons we stayed up,” said Parry. “It was not just his saves, it was how comfortable he made the back four feel.

“The back four in front of him felt really confident in knowing he was their goalkeeper.

“He is one of the most level headed young goalkeepers that I have come across. He is a lovely lad but not just that, he wants to get better and wants to improve. Peter is really mature for his years.

“I went through John Achterberg at Liverpool to get Peter and I know John rates him really highly.

“We were lucky to get him at the time because Liverpool were really hoping to get him out to a Championship side.

“Peter would go back to Liverpool once a week and train with them, just to keep the contact.”

Gulacsi kept seven clean sheets in 19 appearances for Tranmere, including on the final day of the 2010 season at Stockport County.

Parry says Liverpool kept a close eye on their goalkeeping asset during his time with Rovers.

“A representative from Liverpool watched almost all of his matches for us and with all loanees, we send their parent club a DVD of each game they play in,” explained Parry. “I know John goes through with a fine tooth comb so was well aware of how he was doing.

“Especially with goalkeepers, they need to be playing competitive football for their development. Just being around the reserves and not playing is not doing them any favours at all.”

Gulacsi has also been loaned to Hereford United since signing permanently for Liverpool in 2009 and made 18 appearances for the League Two side.

And Parry believes he has all the attributes to become a first rate goalkeeper.

“Peter doesn’t get flustered,” he added.

“He comes for crosses and though he dropped a clanger in his first and final games for us, he was great in between. He doesn’t have the biggest frame but he fills the goal.

“He is a good shot stopper and sweeps up well.”
