Time to bring this lad back. Not a fan of Jones - I find his reactions very very slow and he looks a bit of a flapper to me.

Was thinking the same whilst reading the BBC article.

Can we not appeal the Doni card and thus postpone the inevitable suspension?

On another note. I believe the rule will be changing next year and such challenges will earn a yellow card instead if a penalty is awarded. The logic being, although a goalscoring chance is denied one is also given via the penalty

That could make for an interesting twist. For the times when an attacker is clean through, a defending player might decide to wait until the attacker is INSIDE the box before pulling them down because then they will avoid a red card. It's arguably better to concede a goal (from the penalty) and keep 11 men on the pitch than concede a free kick and be sent off instead, although it will depend on what the match situation is and how long is left to play.

We might even have the defending team surrounding the ref arguing it's a penalty against them, and the attacking team demanding a free kick and a red card instead.

You know I never thought of that. Such a foul outside the box will be a red still so maybe you have a point. I can't see it though - who would want to give a penalty away ?

Imagine you are 2-0 up with 20 mins to play in an important game you need to win. You also have a massive match coming up next. The attacker gets past you and is clean through. What you are going to do now; foul him outside the box, get sent off and miss the next match (which could be a massive loss to your team) or concede the penalty and hope that it is either saved or you can hang onto to your now 2-1 lead?

It's almost a moral dilemma at that point and might depend on your relative worth to your team. When the rule first comes in you are right and people will instinctively not want to give away a penalty. But after a short while, and once some player does make the counter-intuitive choice for the greater good, it could take on a whole new dimension in tactical thinking in those circumstances.

Or attackers just won't get fouled at all as they run through because the permutations are a nightmare for the defedning team.

ah right forgot about this lad , thought you were talking about the one at Twente who we loaned out for ages and i see finally sold . I think he's meant to be decent . gulasci any good ?

Gulasci is very highly rated by the Hungarian FA, did well for them in the youth national teams.
He looks alot like Peter Czech, I really hope he's as good. From what I've seen there is potential but he's not really consistent.

He's done well in his loan spells at Hereford and now Hull. Obv.that's put him up against a lower level of opposition, but what it does show is that he can handle the physical demands of English football. Based on last night, and given the nature of the challenge which the blueslime will pose, I'd recall Gulacsi if we can.

Liverpool To Recall Gulacsi

Posted on: Wed 11 Apr 2012
Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi is set to be recalled from his loan spell with the Tigers by parent club Liverpool.
The Hungarian stopper will return to Anfield later today with goalkeeping options currently thin on the ground at the Merseyside club.
With first choice keeper Pepe Reina suspended and back-up Alexander Doni sent off against Blackburn on Tuesday night, third choice goalkeeper Brad Jones is left as their only experienced cover.
It all means that Gulacsi is likely to be part of the Liverpool squad that travels down to Wembley for their FA Cup semi-final against Everton at the weekend.
