He had his medical with us last night, according to The Times.

We pay 5M up front, and the rest over the length of his contract.
5mil up front is a good deal.
so its really 12 million upfront

It's good to see we wrap deals up quickly now that Parry has gone.

I love the cynicism. Love it.

Moral of the story, never ever believe in any news report until the dotted line has been signed.

who's rafa gonna blame if this goes wrong? wasn't he on holiday this week thus allowing chelsea time to try and steal johnson? be interesting to see what happens next week, i'd rather srna anyway.

Only if the £7m is/was due to us now.

It's about time we signed someone.
Yes, what with all the signings Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea have made, we were in danger of being left behind.
Yup, that's exactly what I fear.

"The deals are almost identical so it really is down to him and what club he prefers, which one is going to pay him more money."

Be interesting to see which it is out the two. After his spell at Chelsea and their instability, I'd be really surprised if he returns there, unless he's only interested in the money.

I'd like to see Johnson come here, but I think it's too much money. I'm not going to lose any sleep if it falls through.

Will serve us right if we agreed the deal 1week ago and have failed to get him in for his medical and agree his personal terms since then.

If we want him and let him slip because we were 'on holiday' i'll be really pissed off.

More with peter storie than anyone to be honest. I know hes trying to start a bidding war, but i hate all this 'in the public eye' shit.

With Johnson on holiday anyway, this was never going to be wrapped up quickly, and I'm sure Pompey must've known of Chelsea's interest, and waited for their bid too. Not as as easy as we want Johnson in one day, we get him.

Anyhow, with Bosingwa as competition, and his bad experience over there, hopefully we've got this one nabbed.
The times are reporting Bosingwa to Bayern is a cert. If he gets to live where he is and the same wages.....

That doesn't make sense - he played very well for them last year ...

Tevez, Silva or Robben.

When the Rob-Rob-Robben comes Hob-Hob-Hobblen along. No thanks. And Tevez has reportedly ruled us out. So come on Silva!

According to the times, he's had his medical and passed. He has chosen us, we're his favoured destination.

The one thing that the Chelsea bid will prove is whether he really wants to play for us or not. If he chooses Chelsea then fuck him, if he chooses us then it'll be twice as good knowing hes turned them down. It will prove his commitment to us.

Portsmouth fullback Glen Johnson was on Merseyside yesterday.

Despite interest from Chelsea, The Times says Johnson was undergoing a medical at Liverpool last night.

It's SSN saying that about Tevez though. I'm suspending belief on it until this is all over.

I'm sure they signed him while Grant was still there, or at least Scolari wasn't official ...

Whatever the case, Boswinga is a very good player.

Chelsea agree Johnson fee
Liverpool face challenge for right-back

Chelsea have matched Liverpool's bid for England star Glen Johnson.

Portsmouth accepted a £17.5million bid from Liverpool earlier this week and the 24-year-old looked set to seal a move to Anfield.

However, Pompey chief Peter Storrie has confirmed the club have also now agreed terms with Chelsea - Johnson's former club.

The in-demand full-back now has a decision to make, with both sides keen to tie up a deal this week.

"The matter will come to a conclusion at the beginning of next week. I do not have a preference over the move, it is up to Glen," Storrie said.

"The deals are almost identical so it really is down to him and what club he prefers, which one is going to pay him more money.

"Glen wants to play regularly in the Champions League, he has got himself back in the England side so I understand that. Sometimes you have to be fair to players."

Storrie admits that Johnson needs to be playing Champions League football next season in order to secure his place in Fabio Capello's starting XI - with the World Cup finals now less than 12 months away.

"It's a big year for him with the World Cup coming up," he continued.

"Playing Champions League football will make him an even better player than he is today."

This is the problem when you faff around with transfers and don't just get them wrapped up ASAP.
Fucking Parry, swanning about on his jollies, you wouldn't catch Rafa doing that.
