Why do they need to be in the same country to negotiate figures though? Just fax or email through a draft contract and let the agents/lawyers send amendments back and forth. Or a conference phone call maybe to speed things up.

Fuck the holiday - this is more important than lying on a beach!

The lad clearly wants CL football, and you have to respect him for immediately dismissing Man City's overtures - Arsenal don't need him, United aren't interested and Chelsea don't want £34M worth of right-backs in their squad.

We've waited 3 years for a RB who can cross the ball, so a couple more days won't hurt.

And besides, it'll give the workmen the time they need to secure Melwoods toilets.

I'm not really sure what nornirongooner said to deserve Ryans rant but then there is so much bile in here its untrue, maybe somebodys been winding him up... there have been far too many whopper posts recently.

Im not unhappy with signing jonhson at all, its fine, i'm just miffed that we really dont have the cash we need to get ourselves competing financially for players the best players, it also irks that we sign a reasonably good RB for 18M and another club goes and buys ..... 14M for Arshavin for example. Apples and oranges but... we do seem to keep getting fucked in the transfer market, IMO... i repeat IMO... well maybe not fucked per se, but truth is near twenty million on an average sort of player is not what I personally was hoping for. We just dont have the financial bollox we would like to compete for the really top players.

Due to in no small part our totally shit owners.

I dont think hes an "average sort of player". He was voted the best right back in the premier league for th 08/09 season. Thats not saying hes worth £18 million but i think hes quality and we need to spend big to get quality players.

You're saying Rafa's needlessly overspending on Johnson and as a result we won't have enough money to buy the best players, and that's the owners responsibility?

Right.

who's on holiday rafa? pot kettle perhaps. the only place rafa should be holidaying on is a fuckin health farm to trim down that waist of his. maybe they've took his phone off him so he can't order his take aways else get the fuck back to work rafa!

I´d be happy if we buy Johnson....even if the price is a bit steep. However! We better have big money to splash on what we really need: a left winger and a striker.

Can Portsmouth actually sell Johnson whilst they are going through due diligence ?

Surely there are laws about companies selling their assets when in the process of due diligence.

molby your babbling. First of all johnson is probably one of the better right backs around, his fee is related to his current form, the fact that he is moving to a top club and that he is a british player and and plays for his country, probably now the first choice. Arshavin is hardly a shinning example is he, he was a nobody 2-3 years ago would have cost little to sign i guess, and the figures initially quoted for him was 25mill once he was known!!! Nobody came in for him and the price dropped. There is a premium for british players and there is a premium for selling to a higher level club, it is always the same

I've no idea, but I'd say both the current owners and the potential new ones will appreciate this is the time to cash-in on Johnson.

They're getting a damn good fee.

I aint babbling at all, we just are spending shit loads of cash on what i consider to be a decent player.

I'm not pissed off we are buying him nor am i suprised that in the current market his price is as high as it is...

I would just prefer we had the cash to buy in a really impressive attacking player is all.

For my money although they play in totally different positions buying a player of great quality like Arshavin for 14M and us buying a good ( although inconsistent) RB for 18M...

well it leaves me a bit miffed tbh.

Babbling or not.

How does anyone know that we won't buy Silva or Eto'o or Villa or someone of that caliber?

The simple answer is that we don't know. We don't know how much cash Rafa has to spend, regardless of what gutter tabloids write.

Arshavin was a bargain without a doubt. He'd be valued at about £25m on the current market.

Im just guessing from the 40M losses and the fact that our owners are complete shysters and the fact we still haven't got a new fucking stadium on the go and the hundreds of articles in all kinds of papers i've read saying how fucked we are financially.... thats all really nothing apart from that.

We have supposedly been fucked financially for the past few years, and the stories always seem to surface in the transfer windows. Hmmm. And we have spent plenty in each summer transfer window.

Yes its a smokescreen everything is tip top money wise.
[/quote]

I'm not saying that. But it's never as bad as it's made out. Surely the money we spend every Summer proves this?

I know your not saying that Paddy i was just putting the more realistic viewpoint in response to "how do you knwo we wont sign maradonna yaba yaba yaba.." we wont because we are comparatively skint and the figures are there to prove it.

I just read a, most likely bullshit, account which says villa will only play for us if he left spain.... 99% bullshit im sure because if city roll up with 150,000 pound a week after tax i'm sure Villa will change his mind or say he never said it but...

Have you noticed how most transfer stories we are involved in at the minute revolve around us selling not buying?? I have, Alonso one week Masch the next... now Reina i see... Its all well and good improving in the league and getting closer to the prize but I really dont see that such a negative picture of the clubs finances is beneficial, it leaves the picture that we are treading water not swimming ahead.

The limited budget Rafa was talking about might buy us an expensive English RB but it will in all likelihood not buy us a top quality superstar player, your Villa's of this world etc.... its just fact.

Are you pissed off that we can't afford to spunk 40M on one player, such as Villa?

That's more or less what Valencia are looking to get for Villa in this crazy transfer market, isn't it?

pure conjecture and speculation as well as down right shit stirring!!

The losses are the evidence we have all else is just that conjecture

I'm not pissed off at all... i'm just not holding my breath waiting for the arrival of a star player, nor indeed a new stadium.pissed off with a great team and manager?? nope not in the slightest we are a fucking cracking side ....

I am unhappy that the owners are lying robbing cunts without a penny of there fucking own and have bought us with borrowed money that we are paying for in exchange we dont get a new stadium and we dont to play with the really big boys in the transfer market? You bet i'm unhappy about that.

And yes, i would love it we went out and signed a Villa etc...I aint gonna lie, i want us to buy messi and kaka for a laugh as well... but I can live with the dissapointment tho... what i cant flippin stand is when people pipe up with sunshiny tosh as though everything is hunky dory and going to plan and we are going to get schneider and etoo or villa etc after selling voronin + deadwood... its just ignoring the truth IMO. By every single account in any newspaper ive read in the past 3 years we are basically skint and relying on huge horribly expensive loans to buy anything.... sorry to say it but yes that is dissapointing to me.

We'd all love it if had the finances some other clubs have.

We don't, so we just have to make do.

The problem is that with that kind of limitation, we just have to be more clever.

DOWN RIGHT SHIT STIRRING???

hardly shit stirring cochyn... i just have got tired of reading " we are in for Etoo etc etc " ..we are not competitive in the market for the very best players... FACT.

I really could not be bothered to be a whopper and i'm not on a wind up.

How many seasons now is it since we were in a position to catch the really big fish?? fucking years is the answer.... i bet there are lots of people, myself included, who were pleased to hear of signing up Johnson. But if our Silva or Tevez doesn't arrive we will still be happy??

I wont be becuause we need a top quality additon attacking wise not a pretty good additoon defense wise.

Lets hope he's got some cash stuffed down the back of the sofas in the players lounge...

Well, you're not alone in your views of the owners or some of the other issues around that.

However, short of getting in some ridiculous Abramovich style benefactor, we're never going to be buying star players for 40M. And that doesn't really annoy or disappoint me truth be told.

Given that we spent ~20M on three players in recent years and that we look likely to add to that list with Johnson, I don't know why you're saying we can't afford to buy 'star' players like Sneijder (who won't go for a ridiculous sum if sold). If we don't get one of these players, it'll be down to the same reason as always - we chose not to.
