Gerard Deulofeu is one of the sensations of the summer. If a few weeks ago it was Jordi Alba making waves for the senior Spanish national team at Euro 2012, now it’s the Barcelona Academy striker, alongside Real Madrid’s Jesé who is attracting the attention of European clubs looking for quality players to strengthen their squads.

England is one of the countries that took most note of the Spain’s under-19 team’s performance at the Euros and of Gerard Deulofeu, one of its most coveted players. A number of British media sources yesterday reported that Liverpool, amongst others is intent on signing the young Barça academy player.

The Anfield club would be prepared to offer almost €10m, although the Catalan club isn’t prepared to negotiate because it doesn’t want to part with one of its most promising young players.

One possibility would be a loan deal so that the footballer could get some playing time at the highest level and could then return to Barcelona in tip-top condition to cement a place in the first team. In this case, according to sources in England, Queens Park Rangers would be prepared to offer him playing time in the Premier League.

The coming days will be crucial in deciding the immediate future of the young academy player, who will be intent on convincing Vilanova he should stay.

Gerard Deulofeu's fantastic performance in the under-19 European Championships has not gone unnoticed. The Barcelona forward has come on tremendously as a player and the club's fans would like to see him promoted to Tito Vilanova's squad for the coming season.

When it comes to spotting new talent, there's no one better than Albert Benaiges –former grassroots coordinator at Barcelona– to assess the quality and potential of the youth team player. Benaiges was the man who signed Victor Valdés, Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Andrés Iniesta and Cesc Fábregas, to name a few. Benaiges was interviewed by MARCA at his home:

"I'm not surprised by what he did in the tournament. He's a quality player and has been proving so throughout Barcelona's youth academy", said the man who had first watched the player in Barca's youth B team and immediately saw the youngster's potential.

Anyone who followed the U19 Euro's should be excited about this kid.
He's worth every penny but Barca won't sell unless it's for silly money.

Of all the pictures of him you could pick, were you thinking of me when you picked that one, Binny?

Barca B lost 4-5 to Almeria in Segunda Division yesterday and this lad got a hattrick.

Was the 3rd one a good goal or simply a fluke? 2nd one was splendid.

First goal showed great composure. Second goal was sublime. I'm inclined to say the third was a fluke, but who knows.

KEN!!! You're in charge of dealing with barca news!!! Give us the skinny on him!!!!!!

Heh. He's not really been in the first team and I missed quite a few of the Copa Del Rey games last season *shamefaced*.

I'll watch out for him this season.
