Firmino. Sterling had flashes of brilliance but also was quite lazy and had games where he was a passenger and his shooting was quite crap.

Firmino has is a better player overall imo

There's that fucking Greek tattoo "Ο θεός είναι πιστός" "god is a believer". Perhaps he's telling us god believes in him?

He's probably referring to what's in the bottom right hand corner of the picture, if it is what I think it is.

Sterling is genuinely difficult to rate. Hes one of the worst decision makers Ive ever seen which makes him a completely unreliable finisher. On the other hand hes very quick, freakishly strong for his size and he keeps getting himself into great positions. Im not sure why but you watch Sterling play and then watch Ibe and you think Ibe has all the same tools in his locker but for some reason he doesnt put them together the way Sterling does.

Firmino is different in that hes obviously a very skillful creative player. I dont think hes nearly as quick but he knows what he wants to do as soon as he gets on the ball and that buys him a split second that indecisive players like Raheem and Benteke lack. The problem for Firmino is that he can easily drift through games on the periphery and make no impact.

Right now Sterling is probably the better player but hes conditioned for premier league football from a young age its 2nd nature now. Firmino needs to impose himself more on games and demand the ball feom his teammates. If he can learn to better cope with the physical demands there is no reason why he cant be very succesful.

Not to be a downer but just 2 weeks or so ago, the consensus on this board was that Firmino was a pile of shit and, at best, a waste of 30m

That's just initial opinions from those who like to register their cynicism early so that they can refer to it later and post links to it in order to look like they've some special insight if they get lucky and a slow start continues.

These opinions are often mistaken and are the equivalent of opening your gob before engaging brain.

If by two weeks you mean two months, sure. Regardless anyone who wrote Firmino off in his first season is a fool, it was painfully obvious when we signed him that he'd need time to settle, now hes starting to settle, just look how good he can be.

Thought I'd resurrect this in order to make a point on Firmino

It's interesting that pretty much all his good performances and pretty much all of his goals have come with him as the lone striker. He just seems so much better at number 9 than number 10.

Is his long term future with us going to be upfront or playing in behind? I get the feeling Klopp quite fancies him in this 'false 9' sort of role.

It then begs the question - do we spend 25 - 30 odd million on a striker in the summer, or move Firmino further forward and go into next season with a strike force of Firmino, Sturridge, Origi and Ings?

Assuming, like you have, that we sell Benteke, then we quite obviously need another striker. Firmino has 6 league goals. Origi's got 2. Ings best ever tally is 11.

Apart from Sturridge, we have no genuinely reliable quality goalscorer at all. And Sturridge is only "reliable" in the sense of technique and ability and record, as he is made from biscuits.

Wherever he's played, Firmino has showed flashes of class when he's had good games, rather than games where he's terrorised the opposition. It's his first season in England, he's still adapting, and there's nowhere near enough evidence that would suggest we're going to get enough goals from him up front. A new striker to replace Benteke is high up on the priority list this summer I suspect.

I would pick Sterling because of his pace and that he create a lot of chances because of his pace and that we already have Coutinho. Sterling looks like a young Walcott.

Another player that got his career "destroyed" by long term injuries. He isn't even close to be as quick as he was a few years ago.

Yes he is. And until Bellerin arrived, he was the fastest player at the club. Now he's just the second fastest.

Sterling is shit. All he offers is getting the ball, running at pace down the wing then losing it. He's muck.

Sterling isn't sh!t - he's skilful, quick and strong. Unfortunately for him he has the backbone of a jellyfish and the brains of a rocking-horse.

Sorted by sum of league goals and assists

Firmino - 24 games, 7 goals, 8 assists = 15
Milner - 22 games, 5 goals, 7 assists = 12
Coutinho - 18 games, 5 goals, 5 assists = 10
Sanchez - 20 games, 6 goals, 3 assists = 9
Lallana - 22 games, 3 goals, 5 assists = 8
Sterling - 25 games, 5 goals, 2 assists = 7

He's fairly shit JJ. I don't know one City fan who rates him either.

Wow, I'm not a fan of stats but those are pretty damning for a £49mill player

It's difficult to measure really. Sterling has failed though, hasn't he? He went to a better, more creative team and was expected to push on from where he was when Suarez was here, but it hasn't really happened. If anything, he's had more chances that highlight how wasteful and indecisive he still is. He still has alot of raw ability to give him the potential to be a top player, but he doesn't have the killer edge that a true youthful prodigy would have.

Firmino came into a struggling side but we've gradually found a setup that suits him and us, and I think he's showing slowly that's he's a clever player who came make a big difference. He's been involved in 15 goals in a relatively blunt side, imagine what he can do in a side that has goals in it.
