Liverpool have put themselves firmly in the mix to sign FC Porto defensive midfielder Fernando.
The Brazilian's contract at the Estadio do Dragao expires next summer and a whole host of clubs are interested in securing his services on a free transfer.
Porto have also not given up hope of persuading the 26-year-old to put pen to paper on an extension, although with every passing day that is looking more and more unlikely.
According to Portuguese daily A Bola, Liverpool have held talks with Fernando's agent and informed him they would like to sign his client.
Should Fernando be keen, a pre-contractual agreement could be penned between club and player next month, committing the midfielder to Liverpool for 2014/15.
Fiorentina are another suitor to have recently explored signing the player, however meeting his financial demands is proving difficult for the Serie A side.
Fernando is, in another twist, desperate to keep his options firmly open with regards to the Portugal team, for which he is now eligible to play.
The midfielder is hoping to go to the World Cup, but if he signs for another club in January, risks being sidelined by Porto and missing out on his Brazil dream.[/article]
