Liverpool have put themselves firmly in the mix to sign FC Porto defensive midfielder Fernando.

The Brazilian's contract at the Estadio do Dragao expires next summer and a whole host of clubs are interested in securing his services on a free transfer.

Porto have also not given up hope of persuading the 26-year-old to put pen to paper on an extension, although with every passing day that is looking more and more unlikely.

According to Portuguese daily A Bola, Liverpool have held talks with Fernando's agent and informed him they would like to sign his client.

Should Fernando be keen, a pre-contractual agreement could be penned between club and player next month, committing the midfielder to Liverpool for 2014/15.

Fiorentina are another suitor to have recently explored signing the player, however meeting his financial demands is proving difficult for the Serie A side.

Fernando is, in another twist, desperate to keep his options firmly open with regards to the Portugal team, for which he is now eligible to play.

The midfielder is hoping to go to the World Cup, but if he signs for another club in January, risks being sidelined by Porto and missing out on his Brazil dream.[/article]

As an Arsenal fan, I wouldn't like to see Fernando at LFC. He never plays bad and he's maybe exactly what LFC need to fight for the title.

Nemanja Matic has a higher top level than Fernando, but the "Octopus" is far more consistent. In my opinion Porto's best player this season.

Fernando provides: Tackles, strength, a clever head, he hardly does(if any) mistakes, calmness, focus. And on top of that, he is everywhere.

Compared to Nemanja Matic, Fernando doesn't play the killer pass an he plays more controlled. If I would've taken him at Arsenal? Hell yeah!

If Fernando doesn't sign a new contract with Porto, he'll end up as the bargain of the year in any league he decides to join. Guaranteed.

I can't imagine Porto will let Fernando go cheaply in January. If he leaves the league title probably leaves with him.

I get a lot of questions regarding Fernando and the similarity to Lucas. Lets put it this way: Fernando is a good version of Lucas.

Read loads of stuff on Twitter about him, but havent posted any after the Xabi thread.
Ayre apparantly met his agent in Barcelona.

I've been banging on about this lad before. He's ace!
Gets his Portugese passport these days and is expected to play for Portugal in the future.
He'd be an insane signing for our midfield.

I don't really recall ever seeing this guy play. The fact that he's on a free obviously makes him an attractive option - is he a top class player though?

I'll make this clear - you can post whatever the fuck you like off twitter.

But when a simple google search shows your reliable source to be a bullshit artist and it's pointed out, don't get into a hissy fit

He's the one getting the credit for calling the Fernando news first (meeting his agent), and its now been confirmed by a Portugese newspaper and various other sources.
So stop this crap about posting a few tweets of another site and claim its gopsel, when you clearly havent got a clue about this at all.

I couldnt give a fuck about what you think I can post or not either.

I heard a few people talking about Fernando for a while. In the summer too

I think people appreciate links, it's all part of the silly season, the only people who are idiots are the ones who go off on one, time and time again the other way by moaning about why we're not in for player x instead, as a few muppets on here do quite often. It's just a fucking link!

Like the guys going on about the likes of Willian all fucking Summer, crying about who Spurs were buying, the same guys were moaning about a winger link last week, "why aren't we in for a DM?". It's just a fucking link!

I don't know why people take it that seriously to bother digging up stuff about sources. Post a link, talk about it, say "wouldn't it be nice/shit", see what happens. Why the drama? It's just a fucking link!

its a football forum, people express views, some you like some you don't. if you dont like something posted, just ignore it. if we were always senstive about what people thought the site would die due to lack of posts. c'est la vie.

Never seen him play, but I've heard good things. Don't Porto players usually end up at Chelsea?

Well yeah, like I said, I don't know why people get so offended with links, but then, I don't know why people consistently post hyperbole either. Like you said, it's a forum, people are allowed to express views, people are allowed to challenge them too with their own personal view, there's a difference between that and someone going to the trouble of posting a link to raise discussion and getting shot down for it. Don't shoot the messenger and all that. If people what to post hysterical views all the time then they deserve to be shot down for it. There's a difference.

Some of the posts in the Summer were just stupid, "Oh why aren't we doing what Spurs do", look at how things have panned out so far. Our unadventurous spending and failure to buy any overpriced Tom, Dick and Harry midfielder has us where in comparison to Spurs? Oh. But we had to put up with weeks and weeks of drama from the usual posters who get all hari kari when we're not signing who someone else is.

So what you're basically saying is, unless you like/agree with something, don't bother replying. Yet it's over-sensitivity that would kill the forum? Whatever.

i think you're reading too much into my post, i'm just saying let it be - no point having gripes, reacting negatively or constantly scoring points for the sake of. life it too shot.

I agree with the scoring points part, totally, I'm just saying if people want to ram their over-wrought opinions down everyone's throats all the time, then they deserve to be challenged, s'all. *handshakey*

I don't believe for a minute that Porto will let one of their star players leave on the cheap. If there is one club who know how to extract maximum value from players they sell, it's Porto. €60M for Hulk, €45M for James Rodriguez, €25M for Moutinho. If Fernando is anywhere near as good, he will go for a comparable amount.

He won't be sold until he signs a new contract with a 40M+ release clause.

How many star Porto players were allowed to leave on a Bosman in recent years, Ross?

No idea, but they are pretty powerless to stop it happening in this instance. In two weeks time he can sign a pre contract agreement with us or any of the other teams interested in him.

He's got 6 months left on his contract, he has said he wont renew it. They're out of the CL and they wont let him leave cheap but they're powerless to let him leave next summer anyway.
Its down to wheter they want anything out of it or lose him for nothing. Porto getting high fees out of previous deals arent relevant imho.

This had been all over twitter for days. This lad and Salah.

Looks like both rumours might have legs.
