Joe Cole will prove himself a good buy when we get rid of the useless twats around him, and a manager who isn't allergic to attacking.

He's no world-beater, but he is a good player, and this will prove to be the case.

The idea is better than the reality.

Bang on Sir.

He's been fucking shite.
Agreed except he's also probably the most overrated player ever.

torres
gerrard
cole

players that would improve exponentially if continued pressure were applied in the opposition half.

I'm worried, to say the least. Apparently Ancelotti has said he couldn't trust him in his first XI, because despite being a good player, he didn't really have a role or position and he disrupted the balance of the side.

I remember Mourinho ranting about him in public because although the media thought he'd played a great game, he hadn't followed any instructions given to him.

Roy initially told Joey Cole he'd be playing behind Torres (presumably because Stevie G's needed in CM). He's hardly had a chance to show whether or not that would have been a good idea. I remember him stuffing us up more than once when he played there for Chelsea.

fooking hell, there is a function called "private message" in this forum....... 😛

Is that really true JJ? He started the season for several games in his favoured role, and against lesser opposition too in Europe.

Several? We've only played 8 league games, mark, and I doubt Cole's been played in the hole for half of them.
Ok, but he's played there. I get the jist, but when you've got one of the best players in the World already playing there, I don't get the point anyway.

Because Stevie IS needed in CM (given how threadbare we are in there after losing Masher). I was actually quite encouraged when I read reports of Roy having said that about him and then telling Cole he'd be playing behind the striker. It suggested he'd done some sensible thinking about who we have available and how best to make use of them.

There are a few players in the side who we know for a fact are better than what they're showing. Joe Cole is one of them. I half agreed with Fark in the summer as I was very much won over by what Yossi did at Liverpool and Cole hasn't really accomplished all that much, but he's still got a lot of time to prove a good signing.

The problem that you all forget, is that as of right now. Joe Cole finds himself miles away from where he's best. In the final third of pitch.

We have no possesion except from in our own half, we create extremely little since we're placed so low and not pressing. So basically he isn't utilizing any of his creative skills near the oppos goal.

A better more attacking minded manager would get much much more out of our current crop of players. I'm fed up of just letting teams attack us. Move the team upfield, take charge of the game.

A new manager that understands how a winning formula works, that has these qualities will make Joe Cole shine in a red shirt.

Im not writing him off, I just thought he may be a catalyst of sorts, hes shown nothing, but thd current setup has no attacking mentality.

He's played there some three times Mark, and been voted MOTM in two of those games. Just check Morse's MOTM thread.

Ya it appears he has thrown all that out the door and resorted to safety first football, that has served him well in his career so far.

Ending this soon would be good for both Roy and Liverpool.

I think it's very simple.

We need to drop Gerrard slightly deeper so we can exert some influence over the CM area, and he should be paired with Meireles, who in settling in very nicely, and can pick a forward pass, and Shelvey, because he cannot be any worse than the cunt twins and he looks like a player.

Support for Torres has to come from the wide areas, with Kuyt, Johnson and Cole being our best available options - but if they aren't getting Torres involved in the game they should be taken off ruthlessly. It has to be their only remit.

All true to an extent, but he's not totally abdicated from responsibility just becase he's 'new' and in a 'shit team' blah blah blah...

He's being paid 90K a week to what, receive the ball and pass it straight back to Konchesky 15 times in a row? Is that what we got him for? Cos we already have a fucking squad full of those jokers.

He's a senior player, with as much experience of English football as anyone else out ther and he's not pulling his weight whatsoever.

Not all Roy's fault you know.

There are all sorts of issues with the side, and while I never had great expectations for him, he isn't shit, he's better than this. The side seems to be getting the worst out of everyone at this point.

The one silver lining is we seem to have a CM other than Gerrard who isn't a total waste of time. That's really important, because I honestly believe otherwise we'd actually be in danger of relegation barring a purchase. It turns out having a midfield is rather important. Who knew?

Anyway, should we get another competent CM, Gerrard will need to play AM. Getting a ball winning CM means he can be free to be more involved in starting attacks, which Maxi, Cole, Jova etc simply aren't doing. Cole doesn't deserve to play there consistently, though he can against certain opposition.

The biggest dissapointment for me was not that we were getting Cole, but that we were losing an attacking player to gain Cole. Then we ended up getting rid of both Aquilani and Yossi which severely reduced our *dons Rafa hat* possibilities.

I know, I know, Aquilani isn't suited for England, and is a sicknote mess, I agree. The problem is neither is Lucas, and Poulsen and Spearing are suited for the England, but in the championship. Aquilani has obvious ability. I know which issue I'd rather have.

I thought we'd get rid of the less useful mess of supposedly attacking midfielders we have and get quality in, not reduce their number. This could have been done, for instance had we sold Babel.

Well spotted.

Joe Cole believes it is up to Liverpool's players to find a way to grind out a victory after admitting his lack of form and the club's struggles are unfamiliar territory for him.

The former Chelsea midfielder was expected to make a significant impact after his summer arrival but has found himself involved in the club's worst start to a season since 1953-54. Under that pressure, very few of the players have reached anywhere close to their best but Cole insists the squad are united behind manager Roy Hodgson, who has endured a difficult time since replacing Rafael Benítez in July.

"The right thing to do is try to grind out the first win, then take it from there," Cole said after the 2-0 Merseyside derby defeat extended the run of matches in all competitions without a win to six.

"We are right behind the manager. We all believe in the team and in the club. We have just got to stick together. We are doing a lot of things right but we have got to cut out what we're doing wrong.

"It's disappointing to lose such a big game but in these situations, the worst thing you can do is start pointing fingers at each other. We have got to look at ourselves.

"It's encouraging now that the club has got a direction to go in [after the £300m takeover by New England Sports Ventures]. We are happy with that. The thing is to keep going and keep our heads. We have got to do better – everyone at the club."

Defeat at Goodison Park was Liverpool's fourth in eight Premier League matches, leaving them in 19th place with six points and only escaping the ignominy of being bottom by West Ham's inferior goal difference.

In his post-match comments, Hodgson said the second half against Everton was the best they had played in his short reign. But Cole admits the team – and him personally – are a long way short of what is expected.

"We are not playing well. I'm not playing well. I know that. I expect better from myself," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I'll just try to do what I can do to get back to it. I need to find my form somehow. I'm sure I will and it will come soon.

"Every minute of every day I'm thinking about how I can get there again. I'm desperate to do well for Liverpool. I've never had a period like this before and it is all new territory for me but it is a challenge and life is never easy."
