Fabinho signed - £43m so it begins.

8 goals and 5 assists in 40 games (ca. 1:3) isn't your typical DM .... but then I doubt we ever wanted a typical DM, now a scoring/assisting DM is another matter !

And he'll have Keita to slip into that slot whenever Fabinho bombs forward.

Doesn't he take pens? Would explain his non dm like goalscoring.

I don't think any of the established players will move on. Maybe Lallana is most at risk but Klopp loves him. If we get Fekir too then I think Grujic may be sold, though loaned out at a minimum.
I think Milner is out of contract though.

In terms of atmosphere Monaco is the worst team to play for in Europe. They have something like a 15000 seater stadium and they can't even half fill that.

I think Milner is out of contract though.
I would hate to see him go and I seriously doubt he will. He's so reliable and Klopp loves that he can play so well in so many positions (we can fuck Moreno off and keep Milly as backup for LB, LM, CM and RM). I can see him getting a year's extension at least.

Yup. Thanks @StevieM appreciate the assist in getting an ORTHADOX DM through the door.
Can you say something about him deffo sticking with Karius now?

Certainly.

There’s no way we’re signing a new keeper - Klopp is definitely going to stick with Karius - he’s young, has potential and his failure in Kiev and what he learns from it will make him a top class keeper.

That should seal his fate.

Just for good luck - I’m also certain Klavan & Moreno are getting new deals.

I wonder what this means for Milner.
Id love him to stay given how ace he is and can play DMish, CM and LB but if you were him at 32 or whatever he is and you see Keita, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson and Ox as a MINIMUM for those positions, maybe Lallana, Grujic and Fekir too, would you want to stick around?

I hope he does. And I think if anyone would react positively, he would. He seems very shrewd and realistic when it comes to managing his own energy at this stage in his career. After all, by all accounts, Southgate was ready to talk him back into the World Cup squad and he remained adamant he didn't want to spread himself too thin these days. Hopefully he'll accept he'll be rotated more often, and seize the chance to make the most of his chances

I dont really see that Milner needs to move. Maybe next season when Ox is fit. But right now hes a starter so even a couple of players coming in would mean hes still quite close to the team.

I think Grujic may be sold, though loaned out at a minimum.

Klopp seems really fascinated by his potential. And he's another big and powerful player - amazingly, seemingly at a stroke, we've gone from a team of titches to a team of peak-Wenger era brick shithouses.

I think the problem with Grujic remains his temperament. Warnock, completely contrary to my predictions, actually did him good, but it was also noticeable he left him on the bench when the stakes got really high. In a sense he'd be good to come on off the bench, but then again he's still likely to get a booking with his first tackle. If we can only get his head right, he's young, big, powerful, very competitive, good in the air, and with a net-breaking shot. I'm not sure what's best for him - if it's a loan, or a coach here working with him intensively, I don't know. He doesn't just need to go somewhere to play a bit, he needs a mentor.

I know he's in midfield, but his movement and sheer physique reminds me alot of Kompany, sort of a hybrid of him and Vieira.

As for Milner, my only worry is that for all this talk of his commitment and everything else (which is completely true), he did also go into this season insisting he didn't want to play at full back much any more. So I do still think he has a desire to play where he wants to play and probably as often as he wants to play too. That's the big hurdle, how badly he wants success with us, versus how much he wants to play.

He's seen off most players who've come and gone over the years, so he must have tremendous determination and self belief.

Yeah I did mention it.

I also debunked your myth about the DM at Dortmund... you know the one Klopp didn’t sign and replaced with other players.

So yeah - pleasantly surprised with our new Right Back .

What myth? You said Klopp never played a DM, I said he did, and told you which player it was.

I'm nice like that, I don't just call you a divvy who knows fuck all, I actually educate at the same time. Not everyone would do that.

Well if this player was bought under Rodgers he would definitely be playing RB

What a pointless snide.

He did that with Sterling to improve his game. Klopp put Milner at left back and it was a masterstroke. Houllier put centre half Marcus Babbel at right back and he was outstanding. All managers shuffle players around to where they think they can do a job. Fabinho has played at right back before, just like Can had played at right back and centre half in Germany at times, and for the German U21's/U23's, that was ridiculed when we did it, even though he had played in both positions alot previously.

Whilst I don't think I said that in that particular instance, I have been trumpeting that line for a while and I stand by it, I'm pretty sure Fabinho won't operate as a traditional DM as Klopp doesn't like them, he'll attack the ball instead of covering the spaces, he'll push forward and join the attack, as opposed to holding back and playing cautious, he has the physique and ability to act as Henderson has been, but on a much higher level.

What's great though is that even if he's not operating as a traditional DM, he's defensively astute, he knows how to cover the correct spaces, and he knows how to reliver the pressure from the team when under the cosh. He's going to perform that side of his role much much better than Henderson, and that's all we need in my opinion.

But we play like that anyway. I sort of get your reasoning, but he will cover the fullbacks, just as our central midfielders have done (particularly Milner), though like you say, he will also be given license to build attacks too, because he has that in his locker.

It looks like a stroke of genius in that sense, because he can not only read the game exceptionally well and put his foot in, he can also play, can ping the long or short ball AND he can score goals. That's the complete midfielder right there. On paper, him just sitting infront of VVD and another centre half, is pretty mouthwatering. Him and VVD should complement eachtother well.

I find it mental that we've just signed someone for £44 million odd and the fee is barely discussed. That's how ridiculous transfer fees have become.

It's hard to comment too much if you don't know how good he is, and given the last two "big" signings we made (ie £35m plus) turned out pretty, pretty good, then maybe we're just hoping this fella is boss, too.
