He's definitely a defensive midfielder - I'm not sure there's such a thing as an orthodox DM, especially given we've had Hamann, Mascherano and Alonso play for us, each of whom have played as the deepest midfielder in the side, and each having a very different way of playing than the other two.
Fabinho - from the little I've seen - will offer protection for the back four in terms of a defensive screen but will also be able to start moves from that position.

I've read that several times. I think Steve M or whatever he's called is one who usually quacks on about it, and did so recently until I pointed out the player who played for Klopp at Dortmund. In defensive midfield.
I've no real idea how good Fabinho is, he looks fucked for his age, though.
Still, a DM is a player most of us wanted Liverpool to sign. A new goalkeeper is another, as well as a CB and a striker.

Id love him to stay given how ace he is and can play DMish, CM and LB but if you were him at 32 or whatever he is and you see Keita, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson and Ox as a MINIMUM for those positions, maybe Lallana, Grujic and Fekir too, would you want to stick around?

I also debunked your myth about the DM at Dortmund... you know the one Klopp didn’t sign and replaced with other players.
So yeah - pleasantly surprised with our new Right Back .
Whilst I don't think I said that in that particular instance, I have been trumpeting that line for a while and I stand by it, I'm pretty sure Fabinho won't operate as a traditional DM as Klopp doesn't like them, he'll attack the ball instead of covering the spaces, he'll push forward and join the attack, as opposed to holding back and playing cautious, he has the physique and ability to act as Henderson has been, but on a much higher level.
What's great though is that even if he's not operating as a traditional DM, he's defensively astute, he knows how to cover the correct spaces, and he knows how to reliver the pressure from the team when under the cosh. He's going to perform that side of his role much much better than Henderson, and that's all we need in my opinion.
8 goals and 5 assists in 40 games (ca. 1:3) isn't your typical DM .... but then I doubt we ever wanted a typical DM, now a scoring/assisting DM is another matter !

ALL players can play in any position. Their best however is usually the one they play in most often, unless needs demand.

I don't think any of the established players will move on. Maybe Lallana is most at risk but Klopp loves him. If we get Fekir too then I think Grujic may be sold, though loaned out at a minimum.
