FA Cup - Arsenal

Still buzzing from the Fulham game and can hardly do any work in the office.

So how do we shape up against Arsenal, bearing in mind the next game is next Sunday against Swansea?

Would like to see Suarez and Sterling get a break and maybe Henderson as well?

If Agger's fit he should start.

Mignolet
Flanagan
Skrtel
Agger
Cissokho
Gerrard
Allen
Coutinho
Aspas
Sturridge
Moses

This is not the Carling Cup, why should we take chances and field a weak team?

Agree - we have a chance of winning this thing. I expect Rodgers knows this and will have us go out pumped up from the start again. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of Wilshere/Arteta/Flamini get a red by trying to slow us down in the middle with a reckless challenge..

I think making whole sale changes and playing youngsters, gives the wrong idea.

They need to feel like they earned this. Giving Texeira a start makes sense, If Agger is fit, starting him makes sense. Because one would have earned it and the other is to freshen things up as the old hand is showing lapse in concentration. The message (implied or otherwise) should be we want to win every game.

We've also got a chance of winning the league. We've got a small squad compared to all our rivals. If resting a few players gives us even 10% more in the league than I'd do it without a moment's hesitation.

Fair comment but the advantage of a 10 day rest over a 7 day rest is marginal in my opinion.. Removing the risk of getting injured would be a plus but I don't think fatigue is a factor we need to be concerned about.

I'd just may be consider playing Allen in place of Gerrard...to keep Gerrard fit and firing like he has been lately.

The rest are young enough to recover in 7 days.

Gerrard, studge need a rest.

Sterling needs a break, am concerned he might burn out.

Toure needs to be dropped.

Magic eased back in at left back.

League is priority

A week until our next game, and not one midweek fixture for the rest of the season bar possible FA cupgames

Although Wenger is adamant that he will be fielding a strong team for a match he is determined to win, he is likely to make up to six changes to the side that drew against Manchester United on Wednesday.
Lukasz Fabianski, Nacho Monreal, Mathieu Flamini, Serge Gnabry, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski are all likely to return to the starting team. Nicklas Bendtner and Carl Jenkinson are also in contention, with Wenger facing major decisions over whether he picks Olivier Giroud, Mesut Özil and Per Mertesacker. All three were rested from the starting line-up for the FA Cup third-round win againstTottenham in January, although Özil and Mertesacker did return for the fourth-round defeat of Coventry City.
Wenger will be sensitive to any accusation that he is sacrificing the FA Cup at the expense of the Champions League but his team selections will be influenced by the proximity of the Liverpool game to the visit of the European champions. Although Wenger has previously always made the Premier League and the Champions League his priority, there is also an argument that the FA Cup represents his most realistic chance of silverware.
Brendan Rodgers has no such quandary, with Liverpool’s failure to qualify for Europe ensuring that the manager is free of midweek fixtures. It means that Liverpool can be at full strength on Sunday and will still have seven days to recover before their next Premier League match at home to Swansea City.

With pride at stake after Liverpool defeated Wenger’s team 5-1 at Anfield last Saturday, Wojciech Szczesny is adamant the “real” Arsenal will turn up on Sunday. “I think we got back on track with the clean sheet [against Manchester United],” he said. “We conceded five at Liverpool and it was a little bit humiliating. We’ve seen the real Arsenal over the last year – our defensive record has been amazing.”
The Arsenal goalkeeper also dismissed any suggestion of the players being frustrated after boos rang out at the Emirates following Wednesday’s draw with United. “We are in a good position in the league, we are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League, so I don’t know what kind of frustration we should have,” said Szczesny. “We’re still there at the top of the table. We are going to push for the title. We are still confident. You’ve got a lot of quality teams. They all have different qualities Some of them [Manchester City] score a hundred goals, some [Arsenal] don’t concede at home.”
Szczesny also believes that Liverpool’s absence from Europe is not an advantage for them. “You can also look at it as gaining experience when you play in the Champions League,” he said. “Maybe they will have more energy – but I wouldn’t swap it.”

My opinion for changing the team is to win the game. I would like players rested because they might not be at 100% to win this game, so maybe players who are less tired can come in and do the running and win the game.

Having said that, a 80% Suarez would still be better than a 100% Aspas.

It's a quandry for Wenger. However the fans will not accept a sub-standard team or performance at home to Bayern and that has to be his priority. He has returning players and can use the FAC to reintroduce them and still retain deniability with regards to weakening his team. Flamini, Podolski, Ox-C, Jenkinson all to start whilst he can leave Mertesacker, Monreal and Ozil out citing with good reason considering how they failed at Anfield. I don't think there is anyway in the world Wenger will prioritise the FAC over the PL/CL at this stage of the season.

Answered your own question, you have.

Yep, play a strong team. Let Arsenal rest players if they want to. They have Bayern during the week. We have all week to prepare for our next league game. Let's beat them. FA CUP is there to be won. We exist to win trophies. Go all out. We can compete on two fronts.

Absolutely. The double is on lads.

Just looked at the training pics - looks like a couple of guys from the U-18s joined in the training.

Blurry image of the chap on the right below, but I think it's Pedro Chirivella?

I believe the lad on the right of the photo below is Tom Brewitt?

He seems to have grown taller too. Or maybe Agger has had some calcium removed and has lost that 10cm lead he had over Johnson.

Its the spring in his step mate. He's borrowed some of Kolos magic pills I reckon...

If he doesn't play he'll be doing laps around the Emirates for the entire match. You'll just see him entering the shot from the pitch side cameras time & again.

Henderson is a major doubt for sundays game after undergoing surgery on his wrist

Interesting; I had just read an interview yesterday that he planned to have it done at some point, and it sounded as if it wasn't going to happen until the summer, or even after the World Cup (if he's going).

Maybe for all his talk, Rodgers is gonna make one or two changes & after a week rest Henderson will be able to play with a wrist guard on?

I suppose that way we're not forced to have him out at an inopportune moment in future should it get worse.
