Post Match Everton (H) 1-0 - April 2nd

A few points here

I've been slagging Robbo off for a while. Not for work rate, just because he hasn't had the pace or the guile and that's come with age, but he was great tonight

I won us the game because I backed Everton to win 1-0. That jinxed that result. Then as soon as we scored i backed us to draw, jinxing that really too. I actually think you should send me the money because I guaranteed the win at that point.

Finally, Mac. I know he does some really good stuff but every time any side gets a good chance against us just rewind the play ten seconds and he's given the ball away pointlessly. When he does a Trent next year I won't care cos there are better players in that position, one of which was right back tonight.
@Woland I fucking love you man !!!! That last sentence of your post....

Jones nowhere near good enough to replace Macca.
the problem with Macca that no one ever ever points out is that he can fuck up and cost us games by dwindling on the ball like last season I can distinctly remember 3 games where he got caught fucking around with the ball in dangerous position that led to opposition goals. If that was Jones doing that - then people like you @Modo will want him beheaded.

Dwindling on the ball? Eh...

Yep - but you only notice it if its Curtis right ? its a cancer amongst our fan base to constantly say that about Curtis. Macca does it loads and usually leads to goals conceded or a silly foul given away in a dangerous area.

Yeah I'll just stick with arguably the best CM in the league. Honestly I blame Szobo, it feels like Macca is forced to do that role too.

He was off the pitch because that's where he ended up after being fouled and falling.

I know. Sorry, it was a rhetorical question. Everyone watching the game understood the reason why Nunez was off the pitch, apart from the Ref.
Whistle is blown for foul on Szobo. Pickford and Nunez don’t hear whistle, and so play on. Pickford (not for the first time) assaults one of our players. As the game has stopped, the foul is deemed irrelevant and Pickford avoids a booking or conceding a penalty. Nunez, is rolled back onto the pitch, so that he can receive treatment and is booked for it. If, because the whistle had been blown and play ended, the Ref cannot book Pickford for a foul, then how the F*** can he book Nunez for rolling back onto the pitch….to receive medical treatment because of the foul that Pickford has just committed 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Macca has been very good this season but as the others have mentioned, he is not without fault. To excuse his mistakes by blaming Szobo is a bit unfair.
Spurs where he got caught dwindling on the ball and Maddison scores, is one that springs to mind.
I understand peoples past frustrations with CJ and holding onto the ball too long, slowing down play but he hasn’t really been guilty of that since the last so many games of Klopp’s penultimate season.

Both of them have been shoehorned a bit, Szobo, idk, feels like he has had his freedom to express himself coached out of him. Too much instructions for an instinctively creative player. How else is/was he so much more creative for Hungary or Leipzig? I don't think it is pressure.

Macca plays a bit too deep, with defensive responsibilities that his physique is not really made for. But he does move the ball well, and make very good decisions with it when deep in the midfield.

True, wouldn't mind giving Jones another shot.
Right now, I trust him to find Jota in the box more than Szobo.
Jones is creative, and by that I mean actual creativity, not a squared pass to a player in a worse position. But slot likes the work rate, so szob is always going to be selected

Hmmm... oddly, I had Ibou as my 4th or 5th pick for MOTM. Strange to see so many people saying he had a bad game.
I must have been mistaken.

Maybe I was a bit harsh on Ibou. It's just that I rate him highly (a player his age who doesn't look out of place alongside Virgil is something special) and expect him to be one of our best every week.

one point about james tarkowski - he was class in his post game interview about the tackle on alexis.
apologized too etc ...
credit where due.
Everton have condemned death threats made towards James Tarkowski and his family following the defender's tackle in Wednesday's Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Tarkowski was booked for a late challenge on Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, but the Premier League's refereeing body later said he should have been sent off.

"Everton Football Club is aware of threats made towards James Tarkowski and his family on social media. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in football or society," read a Toffees statement.

"The club is liaising with James and his wife Samantha, and stands ready to engage with the social media companies and assist the police with any potential investigation.

"Everton strongly condemns any form of online or offline intimidation, threats or abuse directed at players, staff or their families."

Tarkowski's wife Samantha said the abuse was "beyond disgusting" in an Instagram post.

"The level of abuse my husband is receiving wishing death on him, vile comments about me, about us as a couple and about him as a person is beyond disgusting," she said.

"People forget that he is more than just a footballer. He is a husband, a son, a brother, a friend and most importantly the father of our two children.

"Football is a sport, but the way some so-called fans behave is disgraceful. The abuse, the threats - it's not passion, it's pathetic. We're real people and this goes far beyond football."

Tarkowski was seen speaking to Mac Allister on the pitch at the final whistle and said the Argentina international had accepted his apology.

"I spoke to him and apologised because it was not a great tackle," he told Premier League Productions.

"When the ball fell between us I thought he was going to come and was expecting it to be a big old school 50-50 challenge. But he pulled out of the tackle and as I lunged, followed through and in, I caught him pretty high.

"I've apologised to him and he accepted it, so not a great one from me."

As said previously. Executed to perfection by the CBs:

They drew the line off VVD when the the furthest defender was actually Konaté. Overall decision was (luckily) still correct, but it's still a mistake in their analysis.

Dreamy thinks they didnt do their job though. Even if Konate has absolute control.

How are there this many problems with VAR? I would have thought they got it down to a science now.

No dreamy thinks Virgil was shite and lost a 1v1 battle when the flag hadnt gone up and allowed Beto to score.

No dreamy thinks Virgil was shite and list a 1v1 battle when the flag hadnt gone up and allowed Beto to score.

The image even shows VVD with his back to Beto (no that doesn't mean that Konate didn't do a great job catching him offside), so he couldn't possibly have been sure he was offside.

Two things can be true: the offside trap worked fine, and the subsequent defending by VVD was bad.

The thing is that Virgil knows Konate sets the line or if he doesn’t then he would have followed the run. The half arsed attempt is because they are waiting for the heavy flag.

No doubt an injury will happen because of it one day.
