Nail on head. Modern players just want to high tail it to Barca, Real, Bayern, and maybe the likes of City and Chelsea for instant glory and money. Sterling was fucking 20 is all going to City. I don't blame them and I'm not syaing I'd do anything differently in their position it's just how it is. I'm sure Suarez thinks Liverpool are alright and hopes we do well, but that's it with his affinity to us. He won't be back. If Suarez had stayed here and eventually won us our first league in 20 something years it would have been a way bigger achievement than winning 8 trophies with Barca. Players don't think that way though....Apart from Oncy's favourite.

To be honest Aidan that probably applies to the vast majority of players going to Barca .... but I don't think that was the prime mover for Suarez. I was upset with him and his agent agitating for a move to Arsenal, but not to Barca which I completely understood. Suarez worked very hard when young to get a move (any move) to Europe to be close to the girl who would later become his wife and she had been living with her family in Barcelona. Obviously it completed their family life moving back there to be close to her parents, of course Barca being Barca doesn't hinder !

He wanted to move to Barcelona because they are one of the biggest clubs in the world, in a country similar to his own culture. It just happened that his in laws were there. A nice little bonus.

He initially moved to Groningen to get out of South America to be closer to his girlfriend. This was also a stepping stone in his career as European football is seen as a positive career move for young South Americans. He then moved to a bigger club in Ajax before upgrading again to Liverpool. He would have upgraded to Arsenal (CL football) if we sanctioned a deal and he would in turn have upgraded on them if Madrid or Barca came calling.
