Other CL matches : R7

So Atalanta beat Sturm 5-0 whilst Villa lost 1-0 at Monaco and that could cost them a Top 8 position and mean a playoff slot instead.

FFS, why couldn't this Benfica Barca game been on tomorrow.

Looks like Benfica were screwed out of a late pen at 4-4 before Raphinha went up the other end and scored the winner seconds later.

PSG will need something from their home game vs City as if they lose I doubt 10 points (the max they could then make) will be enough to make the play offs.

Villa are 8th but after tomorrow likely 10th/11th.

RM & City can not make the Top 8. Inter also at risk.

Brest, Milan and Bayern should all move into the Top 8 tomorrow.

You don't understand how happy this makes me.

Hopefully the draw is rigged, they deserve eachother in the play offs.
That would be great but RM are on form atm and have two easy games (Salzburg, Brest) left in the group stage.

City looks like the team that will end up between 15-18 in the league.

Madrid are shite, Barca own them and they needed ET to get past Celta Vigo.

A PSG win tomorrow would likely mean City would struggle to get higher than 19th.

Real winning their 2 games would likely mean the finish 15th or higher.

Which all means - yes, there’s a very good chance they could play each other because 13th or 14th will play 19th or 20th.

That’s good, because it means neither can play us in the QF.

City beating PSG means they could still play Real, just depends on other results - but it also increases the risk that they could play us in the QFs.

A lot of other results will determine where they both end up. Pretty difficult to predict now.
But I'd rather avoid both.

Yep, but it’s beginning narrow, obviously there’s only one and a half rounds to go.

We’ll have a pretty strong idea after tomorrows games.

I know there’s a lot of grumping about the new format, but it does mean there’s a lot less in the way of dead rubbers, while also making the group phase more meaningful - despite Slot’s comments on it not necessarily providing an advantage - I think it does - the outliers this year are City & Real, who yiu would expect to be up near the top rather than scrambling to stay in.

I reckon they’ll bring in more seeding over time - like all the teams will be seeded after group stage so that in the R16 the highest seeded team plays the lowest seeded team that makes it through the playoff.

It’s not quite like that yet, in that Liverpool can’t play a team that finished lower than 18th regardless of how gets through.

The limited draw does give a little bit more chance… but I wonder if that’s as much about UEFA putting on a “next round draw” event more than anything - rather than just having everything mapped out.
