Anybody else think Pogba-Matuidi CM partnership was a bit Gerrard-Lampard like? I.e. stifling both their attacking games.

I expect Rurik means the attacking side of each one's game.

My answer to the question is: not really, because Matuidi doesn't have that much of an attacking side to his game anyway. To me their partnership looked a well balanced one on paper but, as someone once said. matches aren't won on paper.

I don't know about that, Matuidi did carry an attacking threat whenever I saw him for PSG, maybe not so much scoring himself, but definitely creating chances for teammates. Both him and Pogba play as advanced CMs in an "inverted triangle" in their club sides, but this time they were asked to play as a midfield 2 and thought it didn't work.
