Euro 2016 - Quarter Finals

I guess that Italy hoodoo did prey on their minds.

I think so, despite Kroos' claims to the contrary. Him and Muller definitely didn't play to their normal level.

Muller's mind is blown right now though - he hasn't been himself for a couple months.

The booking situation is getting really distracting. I don't think it helps the quality of the competition that you get so many players facing a suspension. I'd prefer it if all bookings in the group stage got wiped out for the sudden death games, and then suspensions would only happen if you get a red card or three successive yellows. The current rules aren't making for a cleaner competition, and are just an unwelcome confusion for the bigger games. This current rule will always make it likely that the semis and final will feature significantly weakened teams, and that's not good for the competitive angle nor the spectacle.

I seem to remember some previous tournaments having wiped the previous yellows out at the quarter final stage, but I may be remembering that incorrectly.

It is an outdated rule from a time when every single foul didn't result in an immediate yellow card, because an untrained and out-of-his-depth referee had no other way of controlling the game.

Same although maybe that's just a world cup thing?

It's doubly shit for the smaller nations who might be able to pull together a competitive XI but have little beyond that.

Exactly. And it's taking a league-style perspective into a short international tournament. In a whole season, fine, you accumulate so many yellows and you get a suspension. That'll learn ya. But I don't see what the point is in a very short, high profile tournament where every game counts. How do you avoid it, in this age where even the slightest error of timing can get a yellow card? It certainly doesn't improve the games - it's not as if Ron Chopper Harris and his like are out there waving studs around throats. All it's doing is undermining its most promising games in the latter stages, and, as you say, potentially penalising the giantkillers with the smallest squads.

I read somewhere that all the English based Germans and Italians missed their pens. That's pretty funny if true.

The mindless timeservers who infest football's governing bodies love sticking to their regulations for grim death. It saves them the trouble of thinking.

Would people see sissoko as an underwhelming signing?

I feel with his burst of pace from midfield, and the likes of mane breaking forward we could be deadly.

A player running at pace is very difficult to stop.

Cos he's massively inconsistent over the course of a season I'd guess. Ask Newcastle fans.

Same France fans that boo Giroud now cheer him after putting them 1-0 up...bit hypoctritical but ok.

French fucks.

Iceland played right into their hands so far. France letting them keep the ball & just pushing them back with a gradual press, forcing them into making mistakes playing the ball at the back.

What an easy road to the final this has been for France.

Romania Albania Ireland and fucking Iceland....no nation ranked in the top 50.

It's all bollocks as I said, Argentina can't be #1 when just last week Chile beat them in the copa america final....Belgium can't be #2 and Germany #4 when last time i checked they're the World Champions.... FIFA rankings are all bollocks.
Sorry, my mistake.
When you said that all those teams weren't in the top fifty I didn't realise it was from the list in your head you were taking your rankings

But what rankings were you referring to when you said they weren't in the top 50?

Do you have all the countries in Europe (the world?) ranked in order by yourself on a big chart on your wall?

Why did you say no nation ranked in the top 50 then?

Personally I'd have just pointed out that the 5 is just below the 2 on a numeric keyboard, would have been easier like.
