Enrique

His greatest quality for me is intelligent runs forward, it might just be me but I always feel like he does well to find space which is definitely an asset to our attacks.

He makes intelligent runs; but his delivery is really bad majority of the time.

I wonder if some competition from Cissokho will help to improve him.

Worse than Enrique? Hoping you're wrong, but I know you have watched him regularly.

You never know, new settings, new team etc might give him a boost. But yeah, offensively clueless - and I mean CLUELESS - and at times defensively a liability. I was disappointed we were linked with him. But he was a good prospect when he was younger, so hopefully the new challenge might bode well for him.

To be honest, I don't mind Enrique too much. He's not the greatest, obviously, but we can - and have - done worse. He's our best left back in a good while.

What I did notice in Spain was the fans got on his (Cissokho's) back an awful lot. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Spot on.

He's fooking pants. He runs like Borat for a start. He does fuck all when he gets past the halfway line, apart from the odd cross that looks great but doesn't reach anyone, and they're pretty rare. And at the back, he's now added cockups to his game which he never used to have.
I'll be pleased for Cissokho to come back and let Enrique heal his 'injury'. A bit like when Sterling got a bit tired at the end of last season and got dropped.

Strengths
Speed, Strength on and off the ball, very very rarely gets beaten on the outside, technically very sound, passing is generally very good, keeps possession superbly when under pressure.

Weaknesses
Cuts inside, instead of getting to the by-line, too often, crossing (capable of delivering brilliant crosses but is inconsistent), shooting is dubious most of the time, doesn't come into the penalty area enough when play is on the other side of the pitch (could be instructions), occasional brain-fart.

I'm more than happy with him and Cissokho at the moment. I doubt anyone can name 2-3 better LBs they would rather have in our team since there's just not very strong competition for that postion league-wide.

He's got at least 1-2 brainfarts pr game these days it seems.
The one back pass he had in the 2nd half vs Crystal Palace was ridiculous.

That said I'm quite happy with him and Cissokho for this season. Lets hope Cissokho can rediscover some of his old form.

Really? His passing is probably the biggest thing that pisses me off about him.

He has a tendancy to lose it in the final third but otherwise he is capable of both tippy tappy short passing or knocking it 50 yds across the pitch.

For those who say "not good enough, we should have better" .... who in the PL is better in your opinion , Cole, Evra (perhaps, he's losing it this season) ... and ?

Yep that was a clueless chip that put Texeira (or was it Morgan ?) in a couple of days back .... oh sorry, it was fucking brilliant !

Haven't seen it. But hey, he did something good once, we have the new Maldini!

I do agree that it's further up the pitch he tends to lose it. But I think that's why it frustrates me so much. We're on a promising attack, and then he just gives it to the opposition.

I look at it this way. There are exactly zero perfect FBs, they are expected to be brilliant in defence and never allow a cross in, never get caught out of position, defend every corner perfectly, speed like a gazelle down the wing (since many teams don't use wingers now), dazzle the opposition defence with their attacking prowess, deliver perfect cross after perfect cross .. and even get on the end of a few themselves to contribute to the goal tally .... ta raaaaa !!

Well there isn't a FB alive capable of that lot or even close. So I expect mistakes, every player makes them but generally fans give midfielders and attackers more leeway than defenders.

I think Enrique does pretty damn well most of the time and can forgive him the occasional brain-fart. Spend a lot, and I mean a lot, and we could get better but in the meantime I'm thankful that we have him after some of the dross of the past decade and if I want to point fingers then there are other players/positions that deserve that attention far more than Enrique (and Johnson for that matter).

Oh and he does actually look like he gives a damn and gives his all, I like that, Liverpool fans have always supported players who give their all. Don't understand the knockers.

Anyway just IMHO 🙂

Your dad never had *that* conversation with you then? 😉
