downing or young?

It's a moot, stupid point anyway, he ended up at the Champions, what were we supposed to have done? By all accounts we WERE interested in him, he opted for the Champions and European Football, I don't know why it has to be made into an issue. They're both good players, there's hardly a gulf of difference between them anyway.

I wonder what everyone who's saying that he fits us better would say if Young had joined us and Downing joined Man U.

ask the question again at the end of the season.

When Young is parading around Old trafford with the Premier League trophy in his hand ?
[/quote]

They'll have to wrestle it out of Gerrards dead hands.

Downing is more consistent and Young more exciting to watch. Let's see at the end of the season who made the right choice.

I now prefer Downing. Because he plays for Liverpool and the other cunts a manc cunt.

'Much better'? No way.

Downing could have had several assists by now, considering the wonderful deliveries he's put in. Not his fault we haven't made the most of it.
He was also 3 inches away from goal of the season contender.

He's done very well for us so far. Young's done well slotting into their side, and two fabulous goals today but let's see how well he does against City, Chelsea and us. Likewise Downing.

I said it all pre season. I have no doubts that it'll be proven conclusively by the end of the season.

It's a sad thing because I want Downing to do well obviously, and while he's providing good width, balance, and an intelligent footballing brain, he's at best a functional/support attacking player. We paid 10 million too many for him.

Young on the other hand is a clear match-winner. He has pace, skill, and a great shot. There were a lot of pointless stats thrown about in the Young v. Downing debates (like crossing accuracy and number of chances created and the like dodgy shit), the only conclusively documented stats (goals and assists) were HEAVILY in Young's favour (Young's production in the last 4 seasons has been as good as Downing's in his entire 10 year career).

What he has lacked thus far in his career is some sort of consistency, but he'll get that playing with better players at United unfortunately.

It's hard to choose between them, yet when they both played for the same team, the Villa fans picked Downing for their player of the year.

It's sort of a vacuous argument. I remember Murphy, Mascherano and Lucas being voted our players of the year. Does it make them better players than Gerrard?

Being voted player of the year is often acknowledgment of a player's improvement/form/attitude. Doesn't always mean he's the best player at the club, or preclude anyone arguing that someone else from the same team is better than him.

I'm happy to debate on merits with anyone that Young is a better player. I said it before we signed Downing and it doesn't make me very happy saying it today but being a fan is one thing, and arguing on merits is another.

Ah ffs, can we let it go till at least the end of the season? We got Downing, end of! Now just hope the lad does well, and in the mean time let's not worry about what a manc (who I'd imagine is also on higher wages than Downing) does.

Hey, let's do this with all the players who never wanted to come to us

That'll be a fucking hoot

Toulalan v emana?

Or maybe he got more goals and assists and has consistently done so during his career?

Even though Skully's trolling is getting on my fucking nerves, I'll just say *What Jr.Windever said*.

Really a moot point. We rolled the dice and got Downing. Young wanted the Scum. Let's move on.

Didn't Young often time play as a second striker for AVL? We wanted him, he wanted to go to the Champions and get CL footy - let it go. The continued attempts to try and compare the two is pointless. One wanted to be a Red and rejected the Mancs, the other rejected us.

I could care less if Young does better than him in individual stats. Let him score 50 and assist on 50. We'll still win the league.
