11 points from 10 games in Prem this time last season, we actually had more points this year at the beginning of October than we had last year at the begining of November

Had WBA beaten us at the weekend we would have had exactly as many points as we had at this stage last season. So given the money spent since it hasn't been good enough.

And I think we can now firmly lay to rest that English players are worth a premium because they settle quicker and adapt better in the Premiership.

Did we not have 12 points after 10 games last season? We have 18 points now. And don't we have a lot more points as against similar fixtures last year? You're also reading directly into stats and not enough into the performances. This time last year we were playing some of the most awful and pitiful footy I'd had the lack of fortune to watch. We"re playing OK this year, not fantastic and mainly lost points due to some poor finishing and a little bad luck. We're doing enough to win games and creating chances whereas this time last year we were doing neither. We should have won many more games I admit but the reasons for dropped points are somewhat different yet no less frustrating than last season. Given this, I don't think you're point is very valid

Don't let facts get in the way of his moan Sunny 😉

Some peoples glasses are always half empty even when the barmaid just passed the pint over ...

I'm going to stop quoting the Guardian's football weekly podcasts stats from now on. They're always fucking wrong.

We're still a bit shit though

They would have been right if we'd been given a minus three for being beaten by WBA last weekend.

FWIW I think averaging 2 points a game should be our minimum.

I think that too. We're on 1.8 so hopefully we can kick on from here

We've got past October, which was always a poor month under Kenny.

Will click from here on in, probably go on a 15+ game unbeaten run, and grab the title in the second last match of the season

Tom, I like the cut of your jib.

Now this post I like.

Predictable.

We bought the worng players, and until we buy better ones - this is exactly where we'll stay. Fucking around at 4th/5th position.

I don't feel that excited or to be honest hopefull in anyway. I would feel better if both Spurs and Newcastle would go and lose a few games to give me some hope, as I don't think that even if we are close to a 4th place finish with both Spurs and Newcastle close to us - that we would prevail due to us not been able to hack the pressure. I think we got problems and at the moment its difficult to identify exactly what they are as our players are somewhat inconsistent from one game to another. I would feel better if we showed some ruthlessness in front of goal in games we should have won, and also if we did not lose as badly as we did against Spurs. I really wish we had the SG of a few years ago who could drive our team forward because I think thats what we are missing badly right now - there is no dynamic player in the middle who can push us forward and I think thats going to cost us.
Realistically, who would you bring in? Sincere question.
I know this is a pretty shite response, but 'better players'.

Look at Downing, Carroll, Adam, Henderson, etc - you know what you're getting. Significantly, our opposition know what they're playing against too, because they're predictable and easier to nullify.

Winning the premier league isn't really about beating your opposition in the top 4, it's about betaing the other 15 bags of shit week in, week out - which Man United have done relentlessly for the last 20 years. To beat them you need players that they don't have, simple enough you might say, but they all have players of the calibre of Stewart Downing - players with some skills, a bit of directivity, and capable of the odd moment of magic. so playing against them isn't that difficult. Playing against Sergio Aguero, David Silva, RVP, Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, etc etc is difficult for that group of 15, because they're unpredictable, they're brilliant and they make life fucking hard for them. They're world class. Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson, Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing aren't.

A solid defence and good defensive midfielder are critical, no doubt. Quality in attack though is what we're missing. We have one and a half world class players in attack (Gerrard's not fit, ergo he's the half). So stopping us scoring is easier for most teams, than it is against say Man City, spurs, or United cos you only have to stop one player for the most part.

Look at Spurs front 6 on Sunday - Parker, Modric, Bale, Lennon, VDV, Adeabyor. Take Lennon out of that and Parker as he's the DM, and they're all absolute quality. all arguably world class players that can win a game on their own.

Man City - Dzeko, Aguero, Silva, Nasri, etc. Same again. You can stop one of them, two maybe, on a good day three of them, but then Adam Johnson comes off the bench and curls one in from 30 yards. And you're fucked.

United - Rooney, Hernandez, Nani, Young. Ditto.

so, there - we don't have enough world class players in attack. We have 1 and the other one's injured.

The other thing we don't have is clever enough players. I'm glad this fucking argument that I campaigned against for the last 3 years that 'pace is critical' has recently died away, because it's fucking bollocks. What pace does Silva have? Adam Johnson? Ashley Young? Modric? VDV? They don't need pace, cos they're fucking brilliant.

The best football team on the planet; Spain. Where's their pace? You see Iniesta tearing it up down the left wing? Nope, not required. They're footballers, and great ones at that. We need more intelligent footballers. Players that can interchange, retain possession, find space where others can't, pick a hole, drag opposition out of shape, find a goal from nothing, play the killer ball, all of that fucking great stuff that predictable footballers find difficult. Cos David Silva doesn't have pace, a rasping shot, he can't get down a wing, he's probably a shite crosser too, but none of that matters because he's another level above 99% of the dross that plays in the premier league, and that's the type of player I want. More of him, more of Rooney, more of Modric. They don't need to be defined by a position, we don't need a designated right winger, we just need the highest quality of footballer, then you let them play in a system that suits, alongside players that are on their wavelength.

I realise I'm not giving you names, that's not my point. 12 months ago I wouldn't have given you the name Luis suarez cos i knew fuck all about him. Ditto 24 months ago I probably wouldn't have thrown up the name Modric. But players like that exist, and until we change what seems to be a flawed transfer policy, we'll struggle to beat the 15 other teams because we don't have enough world class players.

Disclaimer - there are probably spelling and grammar mistakes all through this post. My apologies for that, I'm typing in one almighty rush.

If Kenny had realised what his best team was earlier and with a little more luck in front of goal we would be in a much stronger position. As it is , he has a few hard decisions to make, but I believe he now knows what he now has to do. We need to get Stevie firing on all cylinders with Charles in the middle play Adam and Suarez whenever possible , find a place for Bellers, play the in-form defenders and with a bit of luck the fourth berth is not beyond us.

regards

So all we need is half a billion on players and we're sorted.

*empties pockets*

I've got 37 pence here to get the whip round started off.

I've got that in my pocket as well 🙂

But to get it to you, I'll need to post it and the stamp from the US costs $2 since coins are heavy. $2 is roughly £1.33 so our total is now -59p which means we're starting off our whip round in debt 🙁

ryan's post is far too doom and gloom.
we're ONE POINT off a top four place, several players whilst admittedly not world class haven't shown anything like what they are capable of and yet we are still challenging for a top four place even though some of our rivals for those spots are having their best run in years.

Your starting to sound like me 3 years ago.

Transfers: D-
We've spent a fortune on players recently and as it happens only our cheapest buys look to be of the required standard. Loads of time left for our new lads to prove their worth, yet still disappointing that none of the big signings are producing the goods at present.

League position: C

Well we should be doing better considering the points we've let slip, but we can't really complain when you take into account we've had a huge helping hand in our wins over the Gooners and Everton.

4th?

Yeah we've got a great chance, but it looks like it's going to be fucking tight. Could all come down to which clubs get the most games out of Suarez, RVP and Modric. With Stevie constantly injured we've got a huge hole in midfield, i really hope we don't sit on our arses during the January transfer window.
