Penalty missed. MK Dons on top, though. Dele Alli, 17, hugely impressive. Brendan Rodgers here watching him.

Ended Wigan 3-3 MK Dons

[article=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-reds-close-2992920#ixzz2pZpYDwfK ]Liverpool are closing in on the signature of MK Dons starlet Dele Alli.

Anfield chief Brendan Rodgers made a personal check on the youngster during the League One side’s FA Cup draw at Wigan on Saturday.

The England Under-17 midfielder is regarded as a “special” talent by Dons boss Karl Robinson, who admitted he has spoken to Rodgers about some of his prized assets.

Robinson revealed: “I know Brendan quite well and we speak about different players all the time.

“There may have been another reason why he was at the game today, but you’ve seen Dele and he’s special. Yeah, he did some silly things but he’s 17 years of age. He did bits of magic too.

“You don’t see many 17-year-olds playing in an FA Cup third round against a very good Wigan side and not looking out of place.

“I’m very proud of his development.”[/article]

[article=http://www.mkdons.com/team/player-profile/index.aspx?playerid=480397&tcmuri=24714#uBXLKwV8hs3iomG2.99]Aged 17, Dele is only the second player at MK Dons to sign a professional contract prior to completion of his scholarship.

The highly-rated midfielder was handed his first team debut in the 2012/13 season in the FA Cup First Round match against Cambridge City, and his first goal for the Club came in the replay at stadiummk in early November.

Dele then made his full League debut for the Dons against Coventry City in December 2012 and went on to total seven appearances for Karl Robinson’s side.

He ended his Under-18s season with an impressive 17-goal tally, making him the top goalscorer for the youth team, and put pen to paper on a three-year professional deal in the summer.

A smart, ball-playing midfielder with an eye for goal, Alli is one to watch for the Dons.[/article]

if rodgers is watching him does that mean he'd go into the first team squad ...or is he just another lad going to get lost in our u21s ?

I think by the time our u21s, who are mostly nowhere near that age, mature enough we'll be rewarded handsomely. We have tons of good talent in there.
Sterling has been the exception to the rule.

Manager Brendan Rodgers was in the stands at Wigan to watch the 17-year-old figure prominently for MK Dons in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at the DW Stadium.

Liverpool have been looking at the 6ft 2in central midfielder for over a year. He has nine caps for England Under 17s and has attracted attention from Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, MK Dons value him at around £2m and that is looking too rich for Liverpool and United. They regard him as a very good prospect but with room for improvement.

Liverpool also have the benefit of having 16-year-old Jordan Rossiter in their ranks who is being tipped to become the next best academy graduate.

They may look to make a lower bid for Ali with financial incentives added on.[/article]
