I don't believe the rumour for a minute. Apart from anything else it would be far too expensive. The only way it might happen is if a new owner with scads of money comes in and wants a change, and tonight's result hardly makes that likely.

If we HAD to appoint a caretaker, the King would be fine. Not on a permanent basis though.

I read somewhere reputable that any compensation paid to Benitez would be limited as he'd find another job soon enough and in those circumstances the payment is nowhere near the 'full contract' value.

Or maybe we could keep paying him a weekly wage and just not let him actually manage the team. Sooner or later he'd get bored of that, and worried about his reputation, and he'd quit.

There you go! I found the solution! Who's got Purslow's email address?

Just got the text from a mate who said it was from a creditable source.

Rafa could have signed a new contract that is based on success, and failure to qualify for the knock out stages could trigger some clauses regarding pay offs.

I've given up to be honest. This stubbornes with Lucas and Aquilani is the final straw for me.

I can see that that might apply to damages for wrongful dismissal, but his contract is bound to contain terms applying to early dismissal and I wouldn't have expected those to be affected by his job prospects elsewhere.

I'd be very surprised BTW if he really did agree to a contract based on results alone.

C'ya Rafa.
Think so?
Highly unlikely.
Within the next month, probably yeah.

Maybe Inter would like a proper CL manager...

And we'd like a proper league manager...

Hmmm. Swapsies.
No matter how bad things got in the league, we could always fall back on the CL and say.. "well, Rafa's brilliant in Europe".

I'm not sure whether I want Rafa gone. We certainly need the yanks out before him.
But even if, for example, we had 200m to spend by some rich Arab, I still suspect Kuyt would be our starting right winger next year. He's just too stubborn on certain things.
If we buy Leonel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and a 22 year old version of Figo, Eusebio, and Ferenc Puskas in the next transfer window- we would still have Dirka Dirka tearing up our right wing.

I think some of his contract is based on results, if not we need to hire some new staff that deals with contracts.

yes i read that somewhere too. it'll be 5 million per season he doesn't work were the details.

i'd sack rafa for gross misconduct

ok we won but come on why put aquilani on for 1 minute? unbelievable.

the players look absolutely dejected. i have no doubt that failing to get match fitness tonight aquilani will be on the bench sunday where we will see both kuyt and lucas start.

He hardly 'played'. Sammy Lee could have done the job Aquilani was asked to do tonight.

2 things I took from tonight;

Kuyt is a moron, regardless of form his judgement is abysmal and he's NEVER where he's bloody supposed to be.

Rafa is an arrogant twat and I will be glad to see the back of him.

And Insua is the worst left-back I've ever seen in a Liverpool shirt since...Drossena

Shit

Thanks for the Europa Cup, now fuck off

He's not that bad Brendan.

He makes some poor decisions, and gets caught out of position against good sides, but he's young, inexperienced, and that can happen.

He'll get better with games. I doubt it'll be to the level that we need, but he's not fucking shit.

I think he is, ryan.
Too fucking slow, positionally like a MWP, and a rubbish crosser

He makes Warnock look like *insert best ever left back ever*

I gues he's not Bjornebye though, which is enough for me.

He was absolutely horrific tonight. I've tried to keep my patience with him (he's young, he'll get better etc.) but he's not ready for the first team and we simply can't afford to wait until he is. Aurelio has to be first choice, which in itself reflects our need to strengthen that position.

Seriously, I think he (Insua) is the sort that, at least in this stage of his career, could badly do with a Kuyt in front of him. He just needs his hand held though games. Too often he's either; out of position, exposed to two opponents, devoid of passing options, or caught for pace. Against Fiorentina away he had a mare, but that's cos Benayoun gave him zero support. Similarly tonight, Aurelio was nowhere to be seen in the second half when Insua started to get troubled. It took Mascherano having to come over and help out.

I don't particularly rate Riera, but he does give great bac-up to the left-back, and I suspect he'd have made things a lot easier for the young Argentine in recent weeks had he been fit and playing.

I've advocated that a couple of times on here. I still prefer Fabio at LB though, although am probably in a minority.

Me too.

I dunno, maybe it would be a more fruitful strategy 'going forward' if we fucking signed some players who - I dunno - *weren't* fucking useless fucking cunts or whatever, that could perform to a decent level in their given position, without requiring *quite* so much help from players in front, behind and/or next to them?

Fuck it, it's crazy I know, but it might be a solution

You're not fucking stupid, so quit acting like you are.

It happens at every fucking club in the world. Do you think Ferguson spent 30M on Rooney cos he wanted him to spend 2 seasons running up and down the left wing covering his teammates arse?

Not all youngsters waltz into a team and are comfortable from day one. Insua's young, toatlly inexperienced, and is getting zero support from his left-winger. I don't partocularly think he's great either, but to expect him to fucking cope with everything is ridiculous.

The sad thing is, Fiorentina and Lyon will probably go out in the next round by a comfortable margin.

Amended that for you SG 🙁
