Meanwhile, Benitez is said to have launched another bid to sign David Silva from Valencia.

The Spain international tops Benitez's wish list this summer, and Liverpool are believed to have offered £15 million plus Andrei Voronin.

So we value Silva at 10M then.

No, £15m plus Voronin.

£15M + Babel would be a goodish deal for all three parties.

Poor fuckers, imagine the grim reality of replacing David Villa with Andrei Voronin

Can anyone think of any other diminutive, physically weak, not very quick, foreign imports who came over here from a big club with a big reputation, an established international, the ability to play in several positions, great technique and failed fucking utterly?

Clue: name begins with D and sounds a bit like "echo".
Zola?

I agree 100% with bren, silva's goal scoring borders on disgraceful, doesn't have the pace to get away from players and if he posses the killer ball to open up teams why is his assist tally no more than modest? personally I think he is better than reira but not a 'lot' better than reira.
people can point to torres and say his goal scoring was no more than average in spain, which is true, but he had the tools, pace, strength and world class ability. I think silva has better than average ability but none of the attributes that make me think he will take the premiereship by storm.

personally I think we should drop the search for an out and out winger and sign a player who is comfortable playing in any of the front four positions, LM/RM/forward and at a push center forward.
because I don't think there is a left winger with the skill, pace and goal threat to service our needs.

Children here are getting too fucking excited over Silva here. He's a decent player but if we sign him, he could be a better player. Playing in a better team, plus Spanish players, easily adapt and still young. We just need to gamble and fucking sign him!
Agreed Glock.

Deal of the summer if we manage to get a shit player out and a good one in - all in the same transfer.

I can't see them having it for some reason lol

What?

His goalscoring record is the equivalent of or better than Deco (Barca), Iniesta, Aimar (Valencia), Nasri (Marseille)....

There is definite room for improvement, but disgraceful??!?!?

I personally don't think we should be spending over 20m on someone who is averaging 7 goals a season in an attacking position.

I'm not sold on Silva, but 7 goals is a start, it's better than what Albert averaged over here. Torres is forever being mentioned in relation to this, for scoring less goals in Spain that over here. I think what's important to factor is the quality of the goals he scores, which look very good from what I've seen, and how creative he can be. I think in a better side he'd score more especially as he gets closer to his peak age.

I would guess his goalscoring record would be quite similar to Joe Cole's who plays a similar role and has been on the wish-list of many posters for many years.

'disgraceful' is maybe heavy handid but we're talking 20+ million here.
also just because torres had average stats and exploded oesn't mean others will. you mentioned nasri and deco have their scoring stats risen above average since joining the english league?

which is fair enough. given the choice I'd much rather we went for tevez because although he isn't a left winger given the games he will average double figures in the league.

I meant from spain, I also said reira was decidedly average in spain so don't expect anything.
hey, if we sign him I hope he does 'a torres' I just don't see it.
That's not really the point Neil, I didn't mean about spectacular 30 yard strikes or anything, he hits his goals with good technique and in varying ways which suggests that he's at least capable of building on what he's done so far upto his relatively young age of 23(?) thanks to his own natural ability and good movement. And as said, in a side that was probably the best attacking team in Europe for the second half of last season (well second only to Barca maybe) he'd surely have the foundations to show what he can really do.

Like I said, I'm not sold on him, mainly because he's never kicked a Premiership ball, but we'd never find out if everyone held back because of that concern. The price has got to be right, but based on what I've seen so far he's a very good prospect.

well after tevez, sure, why not? I think we should approach tevez first and if that doesn't happen then go after silva (looks like tevez has gone to city, wankers). like I said if we get silva I hope he does 'a torres' rather than 'a moreintes'.

how many players are going to score shit loads on the left? not many is the answer. I think Silva might get us 5-7 a season and a few of those could be very important?

I dont know what else you expect, no one is capable of scoring boat loads from wide positions at this level, apart from the likes of Ronaldo
