Liverpool have made a firm bid for Spanish star
June - 30 - 2009
Reports in Spain this morning are that Liverpool have in fact made an approach to Valencia for David Silva and have made a bid.

In addition the bid is regarded as serious and is being considered and that it is now down to the player himself if he wants to leave and join Liverpool.

Liverpool have been linked with a trio of Spanish stars but until now it has been speculation however the reports out of Spain is that it is now real and that Liverpool have made their intention very clear.

This also seems to confirm the imminent departure of Alonso from Liverpool which in turn will help fund this deal.

Be interesting to see if the report on Spanish radio does in fact turn out to be accurate.

David Silva has touched down in Valencia after returning from Confederations Cup duties with Spain in South Africa.

Upon his arrival at the airport in the capital for his connecting flight, the 23-year-old was quickly bombarded with questions about his future, even though his employers had already made it abundantly clear that he will not be for sale.

And now the player himself has put to bed all rumours about any possible departure.

When asked by one reporter if he would follow Raul Albiol to Real Madrid and earn a chance to feature alongside the latest batch of Galacticos, he replied, “I don’t have any plans to play alongside Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I am happy here and I am thinking only about Valencia, who are a great club and who also have fantastic players.

“Now, all I want to do is have my rest after a long campaign and when the pre-season begins, I want to make sure my batteries are fully recharged.â€

Unai Emery and his charges will begin their pre-season tour in the Netherlands on July 20, although Silva, along with his international team-mates Pablo Hernandez, Juan Mata, Carlos Marchena and David Villa (assuming he stays at Los Che), are only expected to join up with the rest of the squad at the end of July.

And this article is hardly concrete evidence a bid has not been made how?

there are no reports in Spain about a bid and Valencia have said he is not for sale so don't get too excited

[/quote]

If they get a bid above 20million or in that region they will have no choice to seriously consider it especially considering the financial state of the club.

That article is hardly conclusive proof, he only rules out Madrid. Just sounds like standard stuff to me.

I'd heard at the weekend that we were making a bid, fingers crossed.

How to add 2 plus 2 and get 49 in one easy step...

Rafa has said on a number of occasions that he has enough to sign another player without selling... they could have just as easily inserted a line about that into the article instead of the one about Alonso but the press seems intent on pushing the Xabi angle.

Regardless I hope the part about a bid being made is correct. I would love to see us sign Silva.

I don't think you really read this thread at all did you ? In fact I think you just popped in to post a spurious link and then popped out again !

To recap for you :

500M in debt and Bancaja is running the show.

Valencia will sell half their team (regardless of what they or their players are saying now) before the end of the transfer season.

Goal.Com simply trawl dedicated football sites across the globe for non-english language stories and translate them. I'd say that Goal.Com is reasonably okay.

In this instance they translated an AS story.

goal.com..... ;D

AS and Marca are absolute shite also.
i will be amazed as i will be delighted if we sign silva, i suspect that aurellio getting injured may well prevent us from selling dossenna which will cut our remaining transfer budget considerably.... we also need to sell babel.

i would rather we kept xabi and missed out on silva than the other way round

Rafa said we could buy one more player maybe without selling. He didn't stipulate the price range of the player but I'd like to think it'd be a player costing towards £20M. With Arbeloa out £7M odd we may well be able to get Silva, I'm not overly convinced he's what we need though or even an improvement on Riera for the left winger position.

I quite like Riera but Silva is a much better player.

I wouldn't dismiss the idea of Riera stepping up from last seasons performances to deliver consistency, threat and goals. He didn't have a bad debut season season, far from it. But if there's anywhere we can improve in an attacking sense, like Babel before him, he's the one who has to stand aside, because Kuyt, Torres & Gerrard are untouchable.

I agree with you regarding Riera Squiggs, I think for a first season he did pretty well, and I would like to see if he can step up a rung or two from last year. As to the untouchables, Torres and Gerrard -certainly, Dirk , I am not quite sure.
I was never a fan because of his limitations, but that said he was fantastic the second half of last year, and punching well above his weight, but the limitations are still there.

Silva can play just about anywhere, Rafa likes flexibility, one of Dirks attributes along with hard work, but to me Silva looks most effective on the right, coming in and using his left foot to good affect.
Silva and GJ could be a great pairing on that side.

Who knows, if Xabi goes, Rafa might be looking to drop Gerrard back into midfield more, and perhaps play Dirk with Torres

regards

Yeah, I agree entirely. I included Kuyt from Rafa's perspective more than my own.

With all the Xabi speculation flying around, the 4-4-2 option is becoming more attractive by the day

-------Torres-----Kuyt--------
--Silva-------------------Yossi
------------Gerrard---------
------------Masher------------

If we go down that route, though, so much depends upon Kuyt and Yossi performing to their best all year round, rather than in fits and starts.

I'd rather see gerrard behind torres (not in a lusty way) that partnering masher (if he is still here) I'd rather see lucas there (no matter how much bren hates him). gerrard can cause far more damage to teams playing in an advanced position.

Gerrard can adapt him game depending on the opposition. I'm not really advocating it, but it's a very strong option for us should Xabi leave. Anyway, this is another debate entirely...

if gerrard can get 15 goals from centre midfield and x player score 15 from behind torres whilst torres gets an injury free 20 goals then we're in a better position as a team.

we play one up with one behind, of course we'll be relying on their goals!! It's not like Utd havent relied on one player 'too much' for their goals.

In fact you are right we have far more strength in depth with our scorers than Unites
