Yeah, I agree entirely. I included Kuyt from Rafa's perspective more than my own.
With all the Xabi speculation flying around, the 4-4-2 option is becoming more attractive by the day
-------Torres-----Kuyt--------
--Silva-------------------Yossi
------------Gerrard---------
------------Masher------------
If we go down that route, though, so much depends upon Kuyt and Yossi performing to their best all year round, rather than in fits and starts.

I'd rather stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation as the Torres/Gerrard partnership is too valuable to separate.
If Alonso leaves, there will be enough money to replace him + buy Silva (or anyone else who can fill all three positions behind Torres).

Replacing Alonso isn't just a money thing. It would be really hard to find someone who is good enough and able to play that role.

Of course, but Rafa seems to be buying players to fit in a 4-2-3-1 formation and we've played that formation for quite some time now, which hopefully will give us an advantage in the title race.
Rafa has made our team like a machine where everybody knows their position, when to run, when to hold. Converting from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-4-2 will set us back IMO. Not in terms of players, but in terms of that interaction between the players.
That said, I'm never gonna be a Premier League manager, so I'm glad I'm not making these desicions 😉
