Coutinho- what now?

He - or most players, really - is never going to feel the same way about Liverpool that you do. So, as fans, we just need to accept that and move on. It's not personal.

VVD has just done the same at Soton but he would have been welcomed with open arms here. So, this isn't about character per se, it's about betrayal of Liverpool. Why would you expect players to have the same feelings towards the club as you do? Mostly they don't, and mostly they never will.

The Ox does!

He's gone a long way to restoring my faith in players

Well obviously that scenario is personal.
Guy wants to leave a job, has a lucrative offer to go elsewhere. He gets excited. He starts calling his old boss a cunt and shits on his desk. Goes on the sick for a month when there's crucial meetings he would be intrinsic to.

Job offer falls through

You telling me everyone at his old company would be thrilled to have him back?

You think people at his new company (if he left) wouldn't think it was boss that he was so desperate to join them they'd do those antics

People don't give a fuck about what someone does as long as it isn't to them.

None of would have cared VVD borderline went on strike, because he wanted to come to us

Doesn't mean he didn't act the cunt.

He should start against City, it's a crucial game and he's our best Fucking player and always plays well against them.

No point keeping him if we aren't going to play him.

He'll instantly improve our team

The sculptor has already produced a prototype:

That image needs rotating the right way - it's clearly a sculpture of Rio Ferdinand's mouth.

Even if I agreed with you and don't he'd be our 2nd best of player after Mane so it's still a no brainer to start him.

I didn't say anything about whether to start him or not. I disagreed that he's our best player. Communicating with you is like arguing with a bowl of jelly.

Fair enough well the thread is about what to do with him now so apologies.

Its debatable whether he's our best player or not. Personally i think he is, but i can see the argument over some people saying mane. Either way he has to start as he adds so much to our midfield.

Look lets not get things twisted, will he hold the same affection to the fans? No.

Should we get behind him if and when he pulls on our shirt again (applaud him)? Yes.

Should we sing his name again? No.

Should we sell him next summer? Yes.

That should be the sum total of it. Nothing more, nothing less. To call him a cunt etc etc is way over the top. He's not a home grown player.

You'd happily welcome VVD here, right?

It's not personal in the slightest. Just an employed bloke who wants to move to what he believes is a better company.

It is personal when he uses things like slagging off Klopp as a tool to get his own way. Everyone knows there's a desire from him to play for Barca, I don't think anyone hates him for that, even if we're not happy about it, but him and his entourage have acted like total twats over the whole thing.

Blaming Klopp, asking to be left out of the CL squad, the injury story. So of course it's personal. It became personal when he opted for the underhanded route.

We should leave him out of the CL squad as per his wishes.

Coutinho is in a rough spot right now. If he does anything other than keep his mouth shut and put in a shift on the pitch he's going to get criticism from all quarters

Yeah, if he only wants half his wages, and you want to tell every other player present and future that they get to dictate terms.

We're away from home. When has Wijnaldum shown anything much away from home? Coutinho is a playmaker, match winner and seems to have a knack of scoring against city. To not play him would be thinking with your heart rather than your head. You don't have to like him, but we still need him.
I don't care.

He shouldn't walk straight back into a team that have just steamrolled Arsenal - especially not after his recent shenanigans.

I am truly baffled that so many seemingly wants to see him walk straight back into the team. I want him in the squad, I want him to perform like a true boss if/when we need him but the fuck I want to see him bench Gini or Can after our splendid performances against Arsenal and Hoffenheim.

Imagine the value of that signal within the squad if that indeed was the case, you can do whatever you like, pull the club through the dirt, fake injury and illness and then when you are back and it didn't work out for you, you can walk straight back in.. THE FUCK NO!

Could someone create a poll about this matter?

If he wants to get back in the team and build up form for the world cup then he's going to have to convince Klopp and his team mates that his head is in the right place and that he's prepared to knuckle down, apologise for any problems he/his agent caused and work his bollocks off in training.

If he doesn't, fuck him. Let him play alongside Yesil in the reserves.

Well you should care. 3 points is more important than proving a point. We have a better chance of winning with him in the team rather than left out. So why cut our nose to spite our face? All i care about is getting 3 points. I don't like him but i don't have to as long as he delivers. I wouldn't give a fuck if we had Kim Jong-Un in the team if it meant it made us a better team.

This is football. If you're not a local lad, I can't expect you be loyal to the shirt. Hell, even Gerrard almost left.

As long as he's playing for us and not sulking/pouting (if we go behind in a game), I'll support him and cheer him.

He's a fantastic player. One of two potential world class players we have. If we keep him, I'll be delighted.

We haven't signed a CB, so we'll need to outscore teams (though with better FBs, and better marking from FKs, I don't think we'll be as pourous this year anyway). Coutinho will be needed for his ability to pick teams, that defend deep, apart. The man is a certified "baller".

Best player or not, he's turned the temperature down a degree or two in the dressing room and I can't see how Klopp will want to work with him after the things he's said and done. The only reason, I believe, he's still with us is FSG made a very public corporate level decision/statement that they wouldn't sell and as a business they, in the eyes of their current and future investors, cannot be seen to back down. I worry this could cause some tension between Klopp and the owners.

Get a new contract drawn up with a buyout clause that reflects the current market and with stipulations on how much up-front payment etc needs to be. Basically make Filthy Phil understand that we're not being disrespected again by Barca. If they want to take him in January or next summer they can have the little shit - on our terms. I've always believed, as a supporter for almost half a century, if a player doesn't want to play for us...they're out. I can also hear my old fella saying, "Nobody's bigger than the club!" I know times have changed but some things should be set in stone.

Some players will care, others won't.
Agger put an elbow in Torres face after he left 'the sinking ship' to join Chelsea. Others like Lucas and the rest of the spanish/portuguese/south American contingent didn't really seem to care much and had a nice chat with him after we lost the cup final.
So I don't think he'll have much trouble integrating himself into the squad again.
Most will forgive and forget and he'll carry on as usual.

This isn't a school team where he's a gotten detention, it's a professional team and you put out your best team.

He's head and shoulders above everyone bar Mane should walk straight back in because it's a massive game for us.
Gini has been wank away from home drop him

It depends on him. If he comes back with his tail between his legs then he should be straight back in. If he's gonna be a bitch about it then it's complicated innit.

I wont be surprised if the little rat plays against Columbia on Tuesday and comes off with a recurrence of his "back injury" in the 87th minute.
