Coutinho out for 6 weeks

Ì see a foul followed by a dive followed by an attempt by Williams to inflict further damage.

So Joe Allen will take his place and our season will duly collapse before our eyes. Poor the Ryan.

I think it would have been interesting to try Suso in the hole. He doesn't have the goal threat of Coutinho, but he does have the quickness of mind and feet to lay them on. And with Moses, Studge and Suarez to find, he wouldn't need to score too many you'd hope. Anyhoo, since it isn't an option, any takers for SG playing there, with Lucas and Hendo/ Allen behind?

I'm still waiting for SG to play wide right of the front 3 like you argued would happen...😉

Fuck you've some memory. That was over a year ago. I remember you thought Allen was a Nasri type player....🙂

I was listening to an interview with Roy Evans quite recently where he was discussing working with Joe Allen through his involvement with the Welsh National side and although he acknowledged that Allen definately has the ability to be more positive in the passing we've seen from him so far, it was his opinion that it isn't really his game to give you that incisive final 3rd of the pitch passing that leads to goal scroing opportunities, citing his relatively mediocre number of assists while at Swansea. He was clearly baffled by Rodgers decision to play him in a more advanced role.

It's not worth anyone else commenting. It's like fecking feudalism forelock-tugging time on here. Some kind of fore-tugging, anyway. Oh, the credulity!

It was a dive.
Its not surprising that some dont see it.
I called it at the time. He was throwing himself into a massive dive before any contact was made, and hes a fucking idiot.

On the plus side maybe he wont dive again.

Heh, Ashley Williams is still a donkey cunt though. We dodged a bullet there.

Did I say Nasri?

.

You had him as a between the lines attacking midfielder. Yes you did indeed. And I'm almost certain Nasri was the model you cited....

As it happens I like Allen too. But I never thought he was anything other than a CM. SG, in my opinion, has the ability to play the right-sided position, and whenever the option was Downing, I still don't see that it was a crazy call. Seeing Allen as Nasri is a crazy call.....

I said more or less the exact same a while back on here in the Allen: Resurrection thread I believe it was.

How on earth could Rodgers rely on a player with such few assists (and goals) to his name to be the focal point of our creative outlet - at team that is aiming to get back to the very top in the best league in the world. Especially baring in mind how extremely underwhelming he has looked most of the time at Liverpool?

Beggars belief and I am glad ol' Roy agrees.

Did he though? Didn't he buy him to play CM? Context when BR came in: We were selling Adam, he was trying to ditch Spearing too, and indeed, he told Hendo that he wasn't sure he had a future at LFC; add to that Lucas was injured and SG had been in and out with injury. BR bought him to play in CM.

Maybe I have just never seen the real Allen yet, the one Ryan and other on here talks about, but if he's suddenly going to ghost past players with Nasri's ease or even possess a goal threat half as dangerous as the little Frenchman - let alone set his teammates up with assists in the same range, I am going to change my username (for 1 day) to "Ryan's always right".

PS I don't mind Allen either, I just don't know if he's actually good enough, let alone still a part of Rodgers plans. It's all very strange.

And while doing so told us all that he's 50% better playing further up the pitch.

I think you are right but he played him in the advanced role in the friendlies, and as we haven't been in the market for a play-maker (unless the Willian link was legit) then it certainly tells us that Rodgers at least believe that is an area of little concern.

Coutinho being the obvious first choice and then perhaps he has seen Allen (or Alberto) as back ups?

Yes, I wanted Eriksen as well.

Yeah, but I just think he meant not playing the deepest CM as he was when he arrived. He was being played at the tip of the 'inverted triangle' to use the talk. He didn't mean that he was going to be a no. 10 or something.

I wonder if we're heading towards an eventual midfield trio of Henderson, Allen and Coutinho. No real idea if that would work, but maybe Henderson will evolve into a pressing, energetic, Steve McMahon style midfielder with Allen the classy, ball-retaining deep-lying playmaker alongside him. With Coutinho ahead of them.

Dunno. That might be unrealistic.

It does have potential.

Allen might do well in an inverted triangle formation, but I am not sure if I would be comfortable with just Lucas playing as the pivot.

I know this term gets a lot of usage, but isn't it an inverted pyramid? I mean, an inverted triangle is just a triangle, surely?

I think if you asked 100 people to draw a triangle most of those would draw one with the point sticking up.
Isn't a pyramid 3 dimensional? As in it has more than three sides.

If you asked 100 people to draw an inverted triangle, 100 of them would draw a triangle. Well, actually, that's probably not true, but I'd love to see what those other people would draw.

This has to be one of the more pointless things I've bothered to bring up, sorry everyone.
