[article=http://www.schalke04.de/en/news/150723_riether/page/1730---86-.html]The Royal Blues are pleased to announce another signing. Sascha Riether will now play for FC Schalke 04. The 32-year-old has joined the club from Freiburg on a one year deal, with the option to extend it by another campaign. He will wear the number 27.
“Sascha Riether is an experienced player, one who will be useful in our young team,” explained sporting director Horst Heldt. “He’ll be an alternative on the right side because Atsuto Uchida has struggled with knocks recently.”
The defender joined Freiburg’s academy as a 15-year-old in 1998 after spells with FV Kuhbach (1987-1995) and Offenburger FV (1995-1998). He made his debut in August 2002 before joining VfL Wolfsburg. He was with the Wolves for five years and lifted the title in 2009 with them. The two-time Germany international joined Köln in 2011 before heading to Premier League side Fulham in 2012. He rejoined Freiburg in the summer of 2014.
Riether has made 226 Bundesliga appearances (10 goals), 66 Premier League appearances (1 goal) and 29 in the DFB Cup (2 goals). He has also played in 18 European matches for VfL Wolfsburg.[/article]
