So it seems like even lads without a single minute in the CL like Kelleher and Brewster got their medals – seems a bit unfair, TBH. Anyone know what's the exact rule about who gets the medal?

Maybe all squad member registered for the champions league are entitled to one

I think the club get like 20 or 30 to hand out as they please. 30 I'm pretty sure

They were registered in squad and on bench as uefa increased bench size to all players rather than 7.

Another sad thing is that Ox played zero minutes in this CL campaign as well.

I get what you mean here but not really bothered by it.

It happens at almost every single tournament ... euros, world cup ... you always have players in a squad who didn't play a single second but will still receive a winners medal.

Yeah but in his case I was hoping for some kind of redemption. Just 10 mins on the pitch would suffice.
I'm glad that Shaqiri got his moment in the semi final though.

Do the GAA still only give out winners' medals and nothing to the runners up?

I always thought that was very harsh. Not only did you get beat in the final, but you don't even get a fucking medal for your efforts, go home loser, you don't deserve a fucking medal!

I don’t know where I read it, could’ve been in the Sturridge interview, where it justifies those who didn’t play deserving a medal.

They may not play on match day but they do help off the pitch. When doing drills they set up like the opposition helping the starting XI to get the result. Who knows if Oxlade-Chamberlain has spent the last 2 weeks training in a position that could’ve been Son for the final. Same for all the other players in the squad.

Indeed. I imagine there have been some reserve goalkeepers over the years for example who have notched up quite a few winners medals without actually playing.

As I recall when we had Pegguy Arphexad as our back up keeper he won roughly as many winners medals as he played first team games in total in his Liverpool career.

I haven't got a clue mate.
I don't really follow the GAA.

At least I'm not an actual Brit.
😉
Excuse me, I'll have you know I've cut all my diplomatic ties with Britain. I've an Irish passport and a Greek driving licence. I've a bank account in Belfast, but it's with a Spanish bank so I've effectively cut commercial ties too.

I think it's bloody brilliant. Imagine the feeling and pride they must have had when receiving that medal. Hopefully it will spur them on. The only person I kind of resented (just a little bit) getting a medal was Moreno. He was mouthing off few months back which stuck in my mind.

Methinks you protest too much

You'll always be a Norn Iron man to me.

He probably mouthed off to try to get a move that would have made us money anyway. He's otherwise been impeccable, otherwise Klopp wouldn't have had him around. C.f. Sakho

If he goes on to be like Babel, I'll be willing to erase any of his bad karma points.

Would bringing Babel and his red hair back be a wise choice as a backup?
