Do you guys reckon we should or would move for centre back cover in the coming transfer window? Klopp has rejected the notion before but it seems to make sense long term wise. 17 yr old van den Berg is obviously. Or do we rely on Hoever?

Unfortunately, just when Matip was doing well, he got injured shortly after his contract extension.

Lovren was on the verge of leaving + his fitness/injury issue is a concern too.

We have Matip and VvD with whom I am happy.

Then there is Lovren, who needs replacing, and Gomez... Who seems to pick up long term injuries...

... So, yes, we should at thr very least be exploring options.

Our CB / emergency CB situation (Physioroom) :

MATIP : 2nd January
FABINHO : No Return Date Given
LOVREN : No Return Date Given
GINI : 26th Dec.

If we can find a loan option we should take it.

Gomez will play the rest of the season though and be class

Every time Gomez goes down or gets into a 50/50 I will be stressed. People talking about VDB but he clearly isn't ready. even with VVD next to VDB that doesn't look like that would work.

Hoever next to Van Dijk should work to some extent, that’s not a bad option. Hope that illness is nothing serious.

We are essentially playing with our 7th choice cb in the event of an additional injury right now, and we have hard games coming thick and fast. Further, that 7th choice makes us play with a midfield that has no steel or defensive capability, with players like ox who are unreliable , and lallana who is the most dumb 6 ive seen in some time. The injuries at dm and cb are going to fuck things up for us, we have to figure out some way of best limiting the damage.

Speaking about CD's. Sami is rumoured to take over a club on level 2 over here. He was manager of Leverkusen and Brighton? Level 2 i Norway is for people that doesn't even care about football it feels like. Strange rumour this.

Transfer window opens in under 2 weeks. Though with both Matip and Gini due to return within that time frame I'm assuming Klopp will want us to muddle through. Leicester and Vardy a major worry though if either VvD or Gomez are not fit to start.

He has failed pretty miserably in all 3 of his previous head coaching jobs, it has to be said. So not surprised he's starting again from a far lower level.

I would still have him as a CB cover, mind.

On paper we should have enough centre halves to cover two positions. Unfortunately we have Lovren who will have an injury spell every season since he joined us who will missed around 10 games a season. Matip also has the same issue, and Gomez too. We are lucky to have Van Dijk who can partner any of the three. Now if we were to go and find another dependable centre half, Gomez might have to be sacrificed and we will have to find a tank with pace. We can afford it now with £78m revenue coming in from Champs League, get someone like Romagnoli. Captaining a shamble of a club called AC Milan at 23, cost about £75m in his release clause (depending on how big of a drop £ would face with Brexit) and we probably have to let one of the 3 go.

But but but LiVARpool don't get injuries , the fa protects their players

As i have said, we have VVD and one of the other three competing for one spot. We know the issues with Lovren and Matip, but Gomez gets used as both a LB and RB by Klopp, and when in those positions he is very injury prone. I think all 3 are world class some extent, but none are leader types like VVD. I think signing a defender is top priority, who that is, i dont know but right now my favoured option is Soyuncu from Leicester. Potentially another 70M+ signing.

I think there is 0 chance we sign an expensive defender, because why the hell would we? We'll replace our 4th choice CB with somebody.

We're talking about right now though, where injuries to every CM that can play CB decently, as well as all our CBs, have left us with a big headache. We'll see what Klopp makes of Hoever, I guess, but 17 year old and CB aren't a great match.

Problem is that this happens every year to us around about the same time. I get Klopp saying why spend and what do we do when all are fit, but maybe the issue here is that all the othe other 3 are just unreliable in terms of fitness. Fuck me whe I heard VVD was out yesterday I knew we would struggle badly at the back. It was like one of those early Klopp games in 2015/2016. We need another just to cover him and someone that can play with him and not so brittle that thay break at the slightest fall, touch, and run like Lovren and Matip. Problem with Gomez is that Klopp cannot resist playing him as cover for TAA, where he picks up his injuries.

Exactly this, but we knew going into the season we didn't have a deep squad and our club decided, for whatever reason, not to make any moves in the summer.

It remains to be seen the full consequences of this.

No objections to that. But are you aware how low this is?

The real danger is when VVD is out. I think the partnership VVD/Henderson looks way better than Matip/Gomez or whoever we put in there. Difficult this one. An old experienced head that play every now and then and stay fit might be tempting, but in a game where pace is so important that is a danger as well.

The main centre back we have been linked with interest in seems to be Ben White. Would be nice if there's a player who can play both at LB and CB who we can sign

Last time someone asked, about getting defenders, he said no in an abrasive manner. He doesn't see the point of getting cover for a month. I very much doubt he will get anyone else in Jan. Of all our managers Klopp is the most fiscally aware

I think we need cover more for Robertson/Trent. But not sure how you do that. Nobody's going to come in January and play close to their levels. Still - would be nice to have cover other than youth or somebody playing out of position.

I don't disagree with that... But we have soooo many midfielders and so few first team defenders. Can we not sign a defender next?

I'm willing to put Lovren on the auction block to partially fund it.

I don't think it comes from a place of fiscal responsibility. He wants to keep the squad happy and motivated. An experienced player who only expects to play a handful of games is just not going to be a healthy member of the squad. He would rather fill that emergency role by a makeshift senior player or one of the kids and it has paid off for him. They all have a reason to work like mad and young players have a reason to sign on. It helps with the friendly competition that exists throughout the squad.

I think Hoever is ahead of VdB.
