Kevin Davies
Andy Johnson
Clinton Morrison
Darren Bent
Emile Heskey

Are all players of the same class as Carlton Cole IMO.
I hope he proves me wrong, but from what I've seen it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Do you mean the other Bent? The one that played for Everton?
it it makes you feel better

Im not advocating that we should sign him by any means but is Carlton Cole actually THAT bad? I notice he is in the England squad. Maybe that should tell me all I need to know.

As if Trap wouldn't pick him if he could. 😉

Seems to me the point about Cole isn't so much the idea that he's crap (which I for one don't think he is) as the fact that he's meh. Trouble is we're not likely to be able to afford much better until new owners take over.

No he is not THAT bad. He will fill inn well with all the other mediocre arses that have found themselves a decent career as Liverpool FC regular starters....

Well, I suppose we can always hold onto the fact that Zamora was a bit of a joke till the last couple years. Now he seems to be afforded a bit of respect.

Perhaps the same can happen with Cole.

I'm not normally religious but I'm prepared to pray to God that we don't sign Carlton Cole. Seriously, he makes Crouch look like Messi.

Please say it ain't so.

Roy made the comment yesterday that he want's to sign a striker who ideally will play upfront with Torres. I can't for the life of me see a Carlton/Torres partnership working.
Did he? I thought he said something to the effect of wanting a player who was similar to Torres and could deputise for him. If he wanted someone to play with Torres, surely Toivonen would have been perfect.
"We are short [in the striking department] so we don't need to disguise the fact that it would be nice to get a striker but they are very hard to come by.

"If the right man comes along I know that the club are prepared to act but I don't want to act on the wrong man and just add another body to the club.

"It would have to be someone who could really play alongside Fernando [Torres] and, in my opinion, improve us as a team.

"I like Ola Toivonen but he's not the right type of player that we are looking for at the moment."

As people have said Carlton Cole in not as bad as some people are having us believe, OK, he is not the marquee signing we might like, but it's support we want for Fernando , not competition.
The question that has to be asked is this..."Is he a better option than N'gog ?".....The answer of course is yes he is, and therefore would improve the team, and he would hit the ground running.
Nando is getting raped and battered up there on his own and he gets frustrated at his lack of protection from officials we need a big strong lad up there to take the pressure off him and give him a bit of space.
I like Llorente , he is a big lad and could do the same thing, is he available? Would he settle to the prem quickly?
To be honest I don't care who it is as long as we get a half-decent striker in the next 24hours or so, we fucked up this time last year not getting one and it cost us badly, the only way we are going to claw something back this year is if we have support in that area.

regards

Rare I disagree with you Vald, well I don't quite disagree fully, but I do not rate Cole ahead of Ngog by much. Cole is Heskey MkII.

you would hope roy would go for a striker that score and create rather than forward whose primary job is to fetch and carry and create space, haven't we moved on from the 'heskey era'?

Well define Bad. How Bad are you willing to accept. Our team is slowly but steadily changing from good to mediocre, and each new addition seem to fit to the latter description. WHo are we and where will this end up?

you are insignificance. and one day in the future you will end up as a dead person
Sooner rather than later Monsieur... Sooner rather than later 😉

I don't rate Cole to be honest. Also, he doesn't like playing centre forward apparantly and sees himself as a central midfielder.

i'm sorry to hear that. if it's no trouble there are a few people i'd like you to take with you when that day comes

If we are going to spunk 10M on someone there are far better fucking options than Carlton fucking Cole.....

Why not just spank it on some young upcoming striker..... Lukaku or Remy for example... Not this shower of shite....

hahahah how the fuck did he manage that. kewell, aurelio, aquilani. hahaha he should be ashamed of himself that'd be like me failing the 11-plus

He's a 1 in 4 merchant. Considerably worse than say, Crouch or Bellamy - scores as many as Kuyt but only plays through the middle.

He's the black Andy Cole.

he must be really black to be the blacker cole.crump we need to kick you out of the game racist.

Carlton Cole is half decent and I'd rather have Zamora and that is quite a leap for me.

While we need a partner for Torres and not competition, we still need quality. For £10M we could have landed Gyan Asamoah. At least his pace would add something to us.

It's the sort of signing Sunderland have been making in recent years - local and over-priced.

Any word on what sort of fee we're looking at here? Must be in the region of 10M, right?
I'd prefer Bent..
I would prefer bobby Z

I am not particularly advocating Cole, but as I said we need a better option than N'gog quickly, Coles advantage over all the foreign forwards that keep being pulled out of hats is that he knows the premiership, he may be a one in four merchant but at least we know what we are getting, and he at least looks like he is available.

If we sign Carlton Cole, presumably he will be used in the same way Heskey was used in his partnership with Owen.

I agree with the point that Torres is taking a lot of battering from sometimes 2 centre-backs at once in his lone role. He's not a Drogba in that he can brush them off, and maybe Roy sees an injury coming down the line.

Cole would take a lot of weight off him in that sense, if he's the target man coming deeper and showing for the first ball leaving Torres to find space and make runs off the shoulder of defenders.

I would be more enthusiastic about the signing if Cole offered more of a goal threat. To be paying £10m for a striker yet still have the feeling if Torres get's injured we'll struggle for goals doesn't make much sense.
