He's english!

but

2001–2002 Chelsea 25 (4)
2002–2003 ? Wolves (loan) 7 (1)
2003–2004 ? Charlton Athletic (loan) 21 (4)
2004–2005 ? Aston Villa (loan) 27 (3)
2006– West Ham United 105 (26)
not prolific enough..

Big, strong, powerful, black, good reputation when very young, doesn't score many goals, not popular with fans, described as unplayable on his day, that day occurs about twice a year, doesn't score enough goals and never has.

Welcome to Anfield, Carlton Heskey

Pretty much.

As long as he spents more time in their box than ours, i hopefully won't be drawn to that comparision too often though.

As I said before, maybe we'll get one season out of him like Heskey's annus mirabilis in 2001
Heskey really was unplayable that year. He also scored the shittest scrappiest hat trick ever against (i think) Derby.

If we do it'll pay for the transfer.

I think he's a decent player and if we get him for less than 10m it's not a bad deal. He's a bit better than Heskey technically and looks like someone who should benefit from playing with some better players.

It's the sort of signing Sunderland have been making in recent years - local and over-priced.

Any word on what sort of fee we're looking at here? Must be in the region of 10M, right?

Yeah, one of those 3 goals being that shitty scrappy 20 yard top corner screamer......
Heskey vs Derby
I'd prefer Bent..

If he can reproduce the form he showed in the early part of last season then he'd be a useful pickup. That's a massive 'if' though. There's also questions to be answered about his attitude. He looked completely uninterested towards the back end of last season, right when they needed him most.

I would prefer Toivonen for exactly the same reasons as Brendan. ie. I can be quite optimistic about a player I've never seen before but it's very difficult to be optimistic about Carlton Cole. That said, if you'd asked me if I want Carlton Cole at Xmas last year I'd have bitten your hand off. I guess if he does come then we just have to hope that wasn't just a purple patch in an otherwise uninspiring career.

Take Lucas! He'd be just what west ham have been missing in midfield
there was talk of them not being able to hold on to Parker, so its plausible they could be looking at Lucas ;D

it would be like the good old days when they would take Houlliers rejects

If we get him, will they change Joe's jersey to read J. Cole and his as C. Cole? Why am I even asking this? So random.

Kevin Davies
Andy Johnson
Clinton Morrison
Darren Bent
Emile Heskey

Are all players of the same class as Carlton Cole IMO.
I hope he proves me wrong, but from what I've seen it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Roy made the comment yesterday that he want's to sign a striker who ideally will play upfront with Torres. I can't for the life of me see a Carlton/Torres partnership working.

No way. Darrent Bent is ace.

Did he? I thought he said something to the effect of wanting a player who was similar to Torres and could deputise for him. If he wanted someone to play with Torres, surely Toivonen would have been perfect.

No if he wants someone similar he'd buy Fernando Torres Llorente.
Same name.
Same nation.

That's what he said in the Daily Post. It seems he's dead set on a 4-4-2 with 2 out and out centre forwards.

Do you mean the other Bent? The one that played for Everton?
