Is he injured or what?

Cos if he can't even get on the bench when we're playing a 32 year-old in every single fucking game for 90 minutes, what's the point of him?

Anyway, Sunderland still want him for some weird reason

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has said that he is desperate to land Liverpool striker Fabio Borini in the January transfer window.
The Italian enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at the Stadium of Light last year and scored 10 goals to help keep the Black Cats in the Premier League.
Talks between the two clubs took place over the summer with a view to a £14m switch, but Borini eventually stayed at Anfield, and has struggled to gain a place in the side, despite injuries to Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli.
Asked if he would like to try once more for Borini in the New Year, the Sunderland manager said: "I would love to.
"It is difficult to explain [why he never signed]. It was a long summer and the things everyone knows, we agreed a price and we flew to America [for Liverpool's pre-season tour] and he didn't come.

If there was one match where he was likely to be effective I thought it would be against the team that he knows inside out (actually better than he knows his current side).

You'd think so

From the guardian:

Gus Poyet refused to rule out another attempt to sign the 23-year-old when the transfer window reopens in January but whether Borini will entertain an offer is doubtful. “I don’t think it will bother him at all,” said Rodgers, when asked on Friday if Borini would regret turning down Sunderland in favour of spending time on the sidelines with Liverpool. It wasn’t said as a compliment.

Wow.

That's some pretty scathing stuff right there.

He best hope Lambert stays healthy cause good luck trying to get someone to play for you after a comment like that.

You would have to imagine a comment like that only gets made once a players relationship with the manager has gone past the point of no return

I'm not even sure after that Sunderland display from Lambs. The lack of movement from him combined with the complete lack of willingness to accommodate him in anyway on Rodgers behalf. The combo of over the top/lack of skill and what seems as a complete lack of tactical awareness on the managers behalf. What little we delivered into the box for him to feast on, were constantly served from the middle of Sunderlands half. Rarely did we make it to the backline.

Right now we would be better served with Sterling on top - or maybe its just me?

I don't really get Rodgers thinking with Borini..

He should be getting playing time imho..

But it is more a question of Rodgers freezing him out, to force him out in january I guess...

He's been froze out because he's fucking useless.

We had the pants of Poyet well and truly pulled down in the summer over the fee.
We'll never see that money again.

I think there is more to it than that. Borini is the better option on all fronts compared to the football BR is currently playing and what Lambert offers - isn't he?

I think there must have been a major incident for a fit Borini not even to be in the Squad.

PS: Didn't Poyet just say he would sign him in January if available?

Except that Lambert can actually put the ball in the net.
Something that Fabio refuses to do.
Even if Poyet comes back in January there's no way he's stumping up 15 million or anything even close to it.

BR bought him. Played him. Realised he was shit and injury prone. Loaned him. Tried to sell him. Told him he had no future. There is trying to prove you are worth a start and just taking the money. Never liked him and want him gone, but if you give average players big contracts it's tough to shift them.

He would have scored had he received to mins Lambart had...? Isnt it really really hard to tell who is the most shitty of the two right now...?

Not really. Borini isn't as good as Lambert. You'll get more mobility and greater pace with Fabio. You'll also get fewer goals, no strength and very little in the way of being a focal point of the attack.

Could be - I just don't think we are trying to accomodate Lambert at all - so what's the point? The side needs more mobility upfront, right? Maybe he would create space for Sterling or Hendo? Somebody?

Lambert just looked like a complete show stopper to me against Sunderland. Worse than Crouch ever looked :-/ !

Lambert's got limitations, no doubt about it, but barring injured players he's currently the striker we have who is likeliest to score. It could be argued (and I'd agree) that barring Sturridge we haven't signed anyone upfront who is comfortable playing on their own; Mario and Rickie tend to have done better in their careers operating in a two, and Fabio's best form has been as a wide forward. Again, this is an indictment of the summer's business in terms of not bringing in someone who could lead the line effectively when Sturridge was injured.

Borini could have doubled his wage at Sunderland, and tripled it at QPR. He chose to stay. In order to still be at a big club. So, it would be easier to transition to a big club in another league. He also knew he would get a few games to stake a claim and backed his own ability. Unfortunately.

Exactly!

I think it was pretty reckless of Rodgers to say it but his assessment was exactly right; Borini would rather sit on the bench (or the stand) earning 50k a week rather than play with Sunderland and earn 35k a week.

Poyet knows now there's no way he's worth 14m and we know he's not worth 4m cause we've got a 4m striker and he assists and scores. Borini does neither.

Sorry Fabio, Borini does neither in the league.

Well, I dont know. Arguing about who is the better player of Lambert and Borini is like watching killer seals rape penguins - painful and you know you could spend your time better.

The voice of experience?

Are you asking me if I dressed up as a Seal and went to the south-pole to rape penguins - Or dressed as a penguin...?

Are you one of them locals from Cheshire, Piedro warned me about years ago in the chatbox?

Haha, no. I did spend part of my childhood in Cheshire, but I escaped. Even at the age of 18 months I knew it was too near Manchester for my liking.

Thank God!

James Pearce: Borini has failed to force his way back into Rodgers’ plans & looks increasingly likely to be sold in January. #lfc

I think most people figured that one out after Rodgers preferred no strikers on the bench to having him there.

I never think anything positive comes from freezing a player out. Even if you don't fancy them, you still might need to use them, so a manager ought to bite his lip, keep them fit, and keep his options open. We're so thin in terms of forwards we could do worse than have him on the bench, and IMHO he could have done well against Sunderland last week.
