Bony is boss

Bony strikes me like as being the mould of Carroll, Lukaku and Benteke-- bustling forwards who thrive at a mid-table team but crashes and burns when the heat is on at big clubs.

Is Bony actually quick?

From watching him he seems like a back to goal striker who is good at holding it up to feed runners off of him or get it wide so he get his arse into the box where (what looks like) his main strengh is - getting on the end of crosses.

He doesn't look the sort who plays on the shoulder of the last defender looking to get in, if he is this sort of player i don't see why we would want him, let alone pay 20 plus million for him.

Cloggy can put this right if i have got him wrong.

He's not quick as in pacy (but he's not slow either), but he is capable of sharp quick turns, which is a good thing for strikers. His stockiness belies his ability and nimble feet. He also isn't some bumbling fool like Carroll who fouls any warm body that moves. In 34 league games, Bony gave away 36 fouls. Compare that to the 29 fouls Carroll gave away in just 15 games. Benteke - 46 in 26, Nolan - 46 in 33.

Suarez's ability helped us a lot when we played teams with deep and compact defences against which the space behind and in-between the defenders is a premium. With him gone, I suppose Rodgers could either look for someone of similar ilk, or explore alternative options if someone like that isn't available. Bony looks like one who mixes up being able to attack crosses with his head while possessing some good skills with the ball at his feet, and hence meets the latter criteria. Bony played for and did well (for one season) at Swansea, not West Ham, Palace or Stoke, so that itself could suggest whether he's closer to Carroll, or to Lukaku, who is another one whose build isn't congruent with the fact that he doesn't really use his body as a battering ram.

Thanks for the reply studsup but whats all this mentioning of Carroll in these last couple of posts? please stop! ; )

Presuming this link is true then what is Bony for? he doesn't fit our quick, sharp, fluid attacking style and isn't Lambert the different option to mix things up when needed?
Could him and Sturridge work together? because if we spend 20 million plus on him they will be next to each other often, probably with Sturridge pushed wider if/when we play a 433.

Bony looks a straight down the middle back to goal type of striker, we don't want or need him in the way trying to feed Sturridge and Sterling in when we have Lallana and Coutinho and to do that, we wouldn't want Bony wide either as we would obviously want him in the box as often as possible, it does not compute, don't get it at all.

The doubts are really starting to creep in about this summer, the vast majority players we are linked with and have signed we could have signed with Europa League football and all the while our direct rivals are strengthening with some real quality signings, wait when Van Gaal gets in and they start throwing money around.

Also barring Sanchez we had higher caliber more ambitious targets last summer, its all a bit weird and sub par so far, still some time to go but its only 5 weeks until Southampton at Anfield.

Bony is not a Liverpool type player and certainly won't fit our style. He is an expensive becnh option and frankly we already have Lambert who is imo a better well rounded player.

I like Bony.

I also get worried when I hear and read about this reliance on D Studge. I think we're taking a massive risk if we're expecting him to be the 'main man' from now on.

This.

I don't know whether Bony will be good for us but I'm leery of relying on Sturridge to stay fit for the entire season, or huge chunks of it at least.

Dont think to many are saying we'll have to rely on Studge. More that he'll love being the main striker and will blossom in that role. We obviously need one more quality striker because of the amount of games and Studges injury history.

Looks like Aspas is off and maybe Borini, so we need it regardless.

Oh, then I fully agree. Think he thrives being the main man. He certainly has the confidence.

Would rather we pursue Lukaku honestly, he seems genuinely fed up with being farmed out every season.

I think we could get him for less than 30M, maybe even closer to 20M.

Doubt it, Chelsea dont want to sell us betrand as they think they had their fingers burnt with studge. So cant see them seling lulalu

Lukaku will only improve and is worth a punt. Jovetic may be a good option.

If I remember correctly, in the 2014 fixture against Arsenal, Lukaku was played out wide. And he was an absolute terror out there, completely shredded that Arsenal back line.

Another interesting one is Seydou Doumbia of CSKA. Feels like he's been around forever, but he's only 26 still. Has been scoring goals for fun in Russia, 20 goals in 26 matches last season in all competitions. Him plus Sturridge and Sterling up front would give us an unfair amount of pace on the break.

The FFF may change their minds unless Spurs go in with a ridiculous bid.

Whirly, can't say I ever heard of Seydou but we need the right player with pace to come in. Its something we've lacked in a front 3 since forever and makes a huge difference in tight games.

They've spent 20M of their transfer budget so far this summer, and are looking to spend another 20M on Filipe Luis. I think when you take into account the presumably higher wages Fabregas will be on when compared to Luiz, they're running out of runway for this window.

If Mourinho wants to bring anybody else in, as he likely will, they'll have to sell to buy. Lukaku might be the first to go considering he's already rocking the boat, looking for a permanent deal.
