Bin the Europa League off

Maybe it's a little reactive and my argument may be full of cause-correlation issues but I'm tired of the Europa League already.

Bin it off. Play the kids. Concentrate on the league and domestic cups.

No, play every game until Klopp's philosophy runs throughout the team.

It will cost us in the long run for sure.
Joke competition which we won't win and affects our league form.
What's there to like about this pathetic excuse for European football.

The winner gets a CL play-off position. That is an extra way into the big European league.

Klopp said ..... "with no pre-season we are doing our training in matches". We need these extra games.

Add to that the fact that if the English PL team don't do well (and that includes us) then there will not be a 4th CL spot up for grabs and one less spot to earn the big money and attract the better players. Nose, cut, spite come to mind for those advocating binning it off. Luckily Klopp has already said he doesn't think like that.

It gives us the most realistic option of qualifying for Champions League next season. If you all think that we will finish top four in the league, then i want some of what you are smoking.

Our squax is not good enough. With an injury crisis, the job has become near enough impossible.

We played against Crystal Palace, one of the strongest and quickest team, a midfield of Lucas, Coutinho, Lallana, Ibe and Firmino.....because we had no other option. We were always going to be outfought today.....no need to over react.

I'm not sure about binning it off but I'm pretty sure it effected us in the last quarter of the game today

I quite fancy our chances in the Europa this year with Klopp in charge and some fresh players to return.

Ergo we should go for it.

At the moment it's just as likely to get us into the CL as the league so I'd be keeping a strong side in it.

We've got more chance of finishing in the top four than winning the EL. We just have to be better than Spurs to do so. Surely you don't need to smoke weed before you believe that.

Winning the EL is a big ask. And the toll it takes trying is too much.

No, it's fairly even but no way the team can win the EL as well as come 4th IMO.

I'd rather come close and fail trying to win the Europa League, at least there would be excitement along the way and big games. Rather than looking back at points dropped against Norwich or whoever in a failed attempt at finishing 4th.

Top four is no guarantee of CL footy. Winning the EL is

We're 7 points off top 4 like... It's early but that's a big gap. It will be tough and we need to go on a great run, like, now. City away is the next game and we could be 10 points off. I don't like them odds.

We've got the 7th most expensive squad in Europe. We should be able to cope.

Anyway what's the point of coming 4th to qualify for the CL next year only to bin it to finish 4th again? That's what we'll need to do if we can't cope with the El.

If the teams we were playing were actually local or in europe it wouldn't be so bad. But travelling to arse backwaters of the planet is gonna kill off the players. Dropping out of it would be a bonus. Out of all the competitions were in it's the last one I'd want to do well in.

Do the teams that are winning their leagues and the champions league each year, put a full strength team out in every single competition they're entered for? If not, they're not trying their very best to win every competition they're in, which is why they're probably being more successful in the major competitions.

7 points is not a big gap at all when all relevant issues are factored in; change in manager, expected improvement, injuries and then the biggest one of all - look at the away fixtures played after City next match (even if we lose and the gap is 10 points) : Stoke, Arsenal, Everton, City , United, Spurs & Chelsea and so all due at Anfield which could aid considerably in reducing that 7-10 points to 4th.

Or we could just lose the home games too. Anfield is hardly a fortress. I think it's too big a gap, but hey ho.

Also, I'll add that for those saying "it's only 7 points...", Chelsea are 6 points behind us. I'd say there's just as good a chance - if not a better chance - of them overhauling that gap, than us overhauling the gap up to 4th. I don't think the likes of West Ham and Leicester will finish above us, but I think Arsenal, City, Spurs and Utd definitely will. Then Chelsea will surely improve, we're about on par with Everton... I can't see us getting top 4 this year.

I'd say both the Europa League and Top 4 look like long shots, but I'd say the Europa League could be our best bet. Play a strong side in it.

There is no way in Hades that a knockout Cup competition could ever be our best option for getting into the CL. You get way more margin for error in the league. I wouldn't necessarily want us to give up completely on the Europa League, but getting in the Champs League consistently has to be top priority if we're serious about making real and lasting progress as a club.

Yup. I never understand why people think the opposite

Jules is completely right there.

Regarding 'giving up on the Europa League' I understand the frustration behind the opening post. I'm far from a fan of the competition and I wish we weren't taking it seriously - especially with Chelsea ruling themselves out of the CL spot. I do take issue with suddenly giving up on it, though. The manager has come in, played strong sides in the competition and taken it seriously. One league defeat cannot change that. It reaks of indecisiveness and for a manager there's nothing worse. For his decisions to have conviction with the players he needs to follow them through. I disagree with the original principle of playing strong sides - and even less so now with some key players out - but I disagree more with the idea of suddenly changing his mind.
