Bin the Europa League off

From the outset, yeah, the league should be the priority. But after the next round of games there's a good chance we will be 10 points off 4th. Chelsea could be 3 behind us. I'd say that's a mountain to climb, and one that should divert our attention (if we had to pick one. I'm not saying we should. Ideally we'd look to win every game) to the Europa League. I think 10 points is too big a gap to overcome with the squad we have and the opposition we're up against.

I don't think Leicester or WH will last the distance, so the 10 point gap is a little misleading for me. We should be eyeing Spurs and Chelsea. Top both of them and we'll be fourth.

We had no choice to prioritize PL in Rodgers 2nd season and even came 2nd. But that lack of experience showed in the CL the following season. We should use the EL this season to see how we fair but most importantly we should use every game to get Klopp's philosophy in to the team even if it means missing out on CL next season IMO.

A 5th place and a trophy or 2 is a good statement to make for Klopp's first season especially since it's not his team.

We might be 10 points off fourth next week (doubt it) but we'll have played every tough game in the book already, and we're defo improving.

I reckon we'll get in the top four whatever. Winning the europa will be nice too. Especially knocking arsenal out of it.

Yeah, I've said in this thread I think that they will fall away, but to assume we will overcome a 10 point gap, you have to say it's well within Chelsea's ability to overturn 6 points. I think Spurs look a good side this year. Utd, City and Arse will finish top 4. So we're battling it out with the other 2 as you say. I don't know if we have what it takes.

While I can understand the sentiment behind the league taking precedent over the Europa league at this stage, surely the further we progress in the competition the more seriously we should take it.
Would anyone seriously consider sending out a weakened team in a semi final leg, for the sake of maximizing the chances of three points in the league, regardless of what our circumstances are, with the exception of competing for the title?

Yeah, that's how I feel, at the minute, the league would take a slight precedence over it. But we should be sending out teams that are capable of winning all games.

But in a few months time, which is more important will depend on how far we've gotten, and how well we're doing in the league.

There's no easy and straight forward answer to this.

I wasn't too sure of this and so had a Google.

Winners of the EL will go straight to the group stages of the following season's CL, if the CL winners also qualify with their league position. Otherwise the EL winners will go into the CL playoffs, the same as the 4th placed team in the league.

For me, if given the choice of coming 4th and no cups or 5th or 6th and the EL, I would choose the latter.
