Big Andy - good riddance (deal confirmed)

If this deal goes through at the amounts quoted, then given amortisation this will not look too bad on LFC's balance sheet. My schoolboy maths says it's somewhere between 2-3m loss.

2-3m loss?

Try £15m!

Loan fee of about 2m transfer fee of 15.5m add ins of 1-2m (which may or may not be reached).

I heard some Toon fan on the radio the other day saying they've a 20% sell on clause with Carroll.

Someone tell me its not true.

His amortized value on the balance sheet would be about 20m at this point in the contract. Of course if he'd stayed until the end of the contract he'd have some residual value, so no ROI but it's far from the disaster it could have been. Not long ago we were talking about being lucky to get 10m!

It's all academic anyway. I wish him well, he doesn't suit the current management and needs to ply his trade elsewhere. Both parties will be relieved that the tag of most expensive footballer and worst transfer deal can begin to fade.

And no doubt we've paid him a signing on fee and are also most likely to pay him a fee to bugger off

It's that kind of creative accounting that fucked up Enron. We can spin it as much as we like. End of the day we've taken a massive hit on this transfer

Yea, I'm tickled pink to be honest.

So say

Carroll 16m
Suarez 40m
Skrtel 10m
Reina 5m
Shelvey and other lesser lights 10m

Means we could take in 81m.

Assuming the owners aren't completely tight, they could add a good 30m to that giving us a budget of about 110m.

So.....

Arsepass 7.5m
Alberto 7.5m
Armenian 25m
Mignolet 8m
Ilori 5m

Gives us an outlay of only 53m. Meaning we should see another 57m being on the table.

Papadopolous for 17m, still leaves us with 40m.

So could that mean we'll see Rodger sign competition for Lucas? Another stwiker?

Really? I'd never have guessed.

Merely trying to say that it could've been a lot worse.

Yeah, so we could sign Suarez

We're getting 15.5mill for him, plus 2mill in addons, plus last years 2mill loan fee, plus getting him off wage bill for half a year - That's over 20mill I reckon for the big pissed up g***, which I think is amazing considering.

@SkySportsNews: West Ham joint-chairman David Gold announces Andy Carroll has passed medical ahead of proposed move from Liverpool. #SSN

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has passed his medical at West Ham prior to a £15m move.
The 24-year-old cost Liverpool £35m and has been on loan at West Ham since 2012, scoring seven times in 24 games.
The transfer fee was agreed in May, but the England international was unsure about a move before a World Cup year.
Andy Carroll career stats

  • Newcastle (2006-11): 91 games, 33 goals
  • Preston (loan Aug 2007-08): 12 games, 1 goal
  • Liverpool (2011-present): 57 games, 11 goals
  • West Ham (loan 2012-13): 24 games, 7 goals
  • England (2010-present): 9 games, 2 goals
"We managed to bring Andy's medical forward and I am delighted to inform you that he has passed with flying colours," chairman David Gold tweeted.
The examination was expected to be a thorough one, because of the fee involved and the player's record of injury problems.
The former Newcastle player fell awkwardly in the Hammers' final game of the season, picking up a heel injury that forced him out of England's two post-season friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
That followed previous problems with his hamstring and knee, which disrupted much of the first half of his campaign at Upton Park.
Carroll was signed by Kenny Dalglish for Liverpool on transfer deadline day in January 2011, for what remains a record fee for a British player.
He had impressed by scoring 31 times for his boyhood club Newcastle United in 81 appearances, but his time at Anfield was short-lived.
Coupled with the arrival of Brendan Rodgers and a new style of play, Carroll's return of just six goals in 44 league outings for Liverpool saw him loaned to West Ham in late August 2012.
