Darren Bent is at the centre of a transfer controversy after comments attributed to him were posted on an internet networking site.

The 25-year-old striker has reportedly hit out at Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy as his proposed move to Sunderland drags on.

A Twitter account in Bent's name carried a series of scathing attacks on Levy on Thursday night, who is said to be playing hardball with the Black Cats over the fee for player.

"Seriously getting p***ed off now," read the first message.

Bent then went on to add: "Why can't anything be simple?

"Sunderland are not the problem in the slightest.

"Do I wanna go Hull City? NO. Do I wanna go Stoke? NO. Do I wanna go Sunderland YES."

It is thought Levy is attempting to recoup the £16.5million that Tottenham paid to sign Bent from Charlton two years ago, while Sunderland were hoping to pay £12million rising to £14million.

The move had seemed to be imminent when Bent was pulled out of Tottenham's trip to China at the last minute on Monday, but little progress has been made since.

Bent finished as Spurs' leading goalscorer with 17 last season.

What a fucking twatish thing to do.

Is it confirmed that it's actually him? Surely anybody could have started a page in his name?

Spurs are looking into it.

So what if he twittered, probably wasn't the brightest thing to do, but who can blame him for being a bit hacked off, Spurs have treated him like crap.

I like Bent.

Why does he need to tell the world through the medium of twitter. Idiot.

What a fucking stupid cunt. OOPS!

I listened to that interview. He's a grade A tool. It was so forced it's untrue.

How anyone is meant to believe that someone in that position, versed in public speaking, made two such 'slips' in one interview is beyond me. He really must hold the public in contempt.

It's all pretty unprofessional, but does anyone really care?

Spurs want rid and have done for some time, so they're not *really* interested either.

I've seen film of him in the studio doing the interview in question and he had a very knowing look on his mug throughout. Thing is, Brown's (albeit vastly different) style of trying to "get with the street" is just as transparent, and even more embarrassing because Brown himself is so stiff and unnatural in any public situation - plus he also has a track record of comprehensively fouling up the British economy - so Cameron has a virtually free run.

Kevin Rudd, the Australian PM, did the same a few months ago i.e. prentend to swear mid-sentence as if it comes naturally and he's just a normal bloke. It's cringeworthy. Spin knows no bounds, Labour or Tory.
