Benitez told reporters of Sir Alex: "In England he's a top manager and when you are with a top side and have had more money than anyone for years, then you can keep winning and you can keep talking.
"But when you play against another top side in Europe, it's always more difficult.
"Should United have done more in Europe? I don't know. I think that United is a top side with a top manager and that's it. We will leave it there."
Benitez has also questioned the talent in the Manchester United squad, believing that they are on the same level as Manchester City and Chelsea and only deserved to win the title because of their consistency.
"I think United have been more consistent than anyone so they deserve to win the title but are they better than Manchester City? I'm not sure. Are they better than Chelsea? I'm not sure," he observed.
"Have they been more consistent? Yes, so they deserve to win the title but still you can beat anybody in one game."
