I think saying Rafa took us significantly backwards is a bit harsh. That was more to do with the ownership issues.
To a degree, but he weakened us by alienating players, and then buying poor replacements on big money. The off field antics obviously affected everyone at the club.

Rafa takes a pop at Fergie and then beats him. Got to love it

Chelsea's interim boss considers that the serial Premier League winner should have picked up more Champions League titles for Manchester United during his Old Trafford reign

Rafa Benitez has questioned Sir Alex Ferguson's success in Europe during his career as Manchester United manager.

The Scot recently claimed his 13th Premier League crown as United boss and has lifted Europe's top prize twice but the interim Blues manager hinted that one might duspect with his domestic success that he would have achieved more continental glory.

28/1 Chelsea are 28/1 with BetVictor to beat Manchester United 3-1
Benitez told reporters of Sir Alex: "In England he's a top manager and when you are with a top side and have had more money than anyone for years, then you can keep winning and you can keep talking.

"But when you play against another top side in Europe, it's always more difficult.

"Should United have done more in Europe? I don't know. I think that United is a top side with a top manager and that's it. We will leave it there."

Benitez has also questioned the talent in the Manchester United squad, believing that they are on the same level as Manchester City and Chelsea and only deserved to win the title because of their consistency.

"I think United have been more consistent than anyone so they deserve to win the title but are they better than Manchester City? I'm not sure. Are they better than Chelsea? I'm not sure," he observed.

"Have they been more consistent? Yes, so they deserve to win the title but still you can beat anybody in one game."

According to usually reliable German newspapers Rafa could be managing Schalke 04 next season.

Interesting. While they're at it, have they said anything about who they think might succeed Mourinho at Madrid if Rafa isn't going there?

Some talk that he might be going to Monaco as well now that they have a new billionaire Russian owner

Hadn't heard that Real were looking at Ancelotti, but I can see he'd interest them. Wonder whom PSG are after to replace him.

He's done a very good job at Chelski, under plenty of pressure, without talking about Spanish football, fancy tactics or envelopes. Well done, Rafa!
